Love my new Cover + Light
 Quote:
I also bought mine at a small discount. The regular price on the web site is $60. I paid $52.00 by going to the "new and used" link, and buying my cover through the Amazon Warehouse, "fulfillment by Amazon". I've had good experiences with "fulfillment by Amazon" in the past, although of course other peoples experiences may vary. As the original poster described, the light does shut off when the kindle goes to sleep. Now I can turn off the bed lamp in my room and just use my Kindle light. If I fall asleep reading I don't waste electricity.

I'm sorry I did not see that promotion - I purchased the lighted cover when I purchased the kindle so they arrived together. It is a pretty reasonable light - shades off a bit as it reaches the lower left corner (diagonal from the light's origin). I just like the one-piece concept and that it gets its power from the kindle.

Perhaps it's nice, but: 1- It's expensive. 2- Turning the thin and light-weight Kindle to heavy, thick and puffy one. |

I don't find it heavy to use but it does add to the weight somewhat. Easy enough to take it in and out of the cover once you get the knack of how the hinges work though. I often read it "naked" when I don't need a light and also when I slip it into a waterproof jacket for a bathtime read. Last edited by TheKindleWorm; 11-04-2010 at 03:38 AM. (via the Amazon Warehouse). It doesn't make it cheap, but, it is less expensive. Also, I find the weight more comfortable. I'm not sure why, other than I ended up very used to my Kindle 2. When I switched to the Kindle 3 it kept feeling "too" light. The case makes it heavier than the K2 but still it feels very comfortable in my hands. I do have large hands with thick wrists, so maybe it helps the dainty Kindle 3 not feel overwhelmed by my "mitts". Whatever it is, the heft feels more comfortable and more secure, less likely to break. But, as always, other peoples mileage and comfort will vary.

I have the cover and I do like it a lot. It seems to protect the kindle better too. I also have the basic kindle cover and it does not seem to have the same amount of protection for the kindle.

When purchasing the k3 I knew I would need protection for it from bumps and flexing as I plan to take it hiking. So a durable/strong cover was going to be necessary in any event. The lighting system just seemed a real added benefit. So the weight/bulk of protection was always going to be a factor.

my hubby really likes his K3 cover. Says it feels more like a real book now with the added thickness plus protection. The slide out light is nice for when you need it.

I'd thought about buying one of the lighted cases. Now that the clocks have changed, my evening commute involves standing at a bus stop with appalling dim yellow lighting and then on a badly lit station platform. It might be good for that type of situation.

the light is powered by the kindle3, so no batteries. I don't know how long it would take to run the battery down on the K3 with the light on continuously. I think the light uses very little power so probably not an issue.

Some suggested that based on current draw, using the light would run the kindle battery down in about 20 hours. That should be a couple of nights of reading without recharging the kindle.

I definitely notice decreased battery life using the lighted cover, but it's worth it. The convenience is exactly what I want in a booklight. Yes, the light is dimmer at the bottom left corner, but not so that it is a strain to see, and I'm starting not to notice it. Also, it is a very soft light, not an intense blue beam. Very easy on the eyes. I used my K3 without a cover for about a week. It was so light and slight that it made me nervous. It did slip from my hands once, no damage. I prefer the security of the cover. |

It's lightweight, well-designed and not bulky at all. Go look at M-Edge if you want to see bulk, or Oberon for extra weight. (I know, I've used them) The canvas covers selling for $85 would be more in line with "expensive."

agreed 100%. After you get reading for a few minutes, the change in lighting becomes very unnoticeable.
