I love new books! As a child I used to smell them!! My parents used to notice when I came in from school with bookprint on my nose! I have since cured myself of this habit now beyond 60 years old! But I don't like seeing my books age and go yellow. This is why I am happy with e readers as your collections stay as they are -eternal youth inside the box. This is sheer heaven to me!!Roger t

I have to agree with AM, with one exception. I have always been a compulsive reader, who carried several books everywhere, even to class. I read my books even while the teacher was lecturing. I compensated for not being a good listener by reading the text book/books.

*Sigh* *Raising hand again* I still love to smell them. Even the mildewy old ones. But best of all are the old shiny paper kind. We had a lovely book about Jesus as a child made with that paper and I smelled it as much as I read it. | |

Is every free moment in your life spent reading? No. Is your TBR pile bigger than your expected lifespan is long? Yes and it is growing. Would you rather be reading right now? Yes, yes and yes. Before you became an Obsessive/Compulsive Reader, did you have other obsessions? Hobbies? Collections? No, I acquired them later. When I was a kid I collected badges. From age of 11 till 14 I collected stamps. I also learned photography. Developing films and black and white pics, but reading was always my hobby. Before and after others appeared/disappeared. Do you still? I guess yes. I still like taking pics and "developing" them digitally. Has reading satisfied your need? Yes, yes and yes. |

I usually have something with me to read, but not really compulsive and only get that way if I'm "REALLY, REALLY" into a book.

My two main hobbies right now are basically the same thing-- reading books and then writing about what I've read for my blog. I do other things on my blog, but it's all book-related. I've recently started doing collages! That's a lot of fun, and it's given me something to do with all the scraps of stuff I keep around. So I guess I'm not an obsessive/compulsive reader after all, haha! |

My children (three of which are grown and moved-out) have all been horrified to learn that I did not even own a television when I was single. They are further rendered nearly speechless when I say that I an certain I could happily get along without said device even now.

I would say I'm more addicted to reading that obessive. The classic symptoms of addiction are: 1) affecting your work. I've been late becasue I just had to finish that chapter 2) Affecting your eating habits. I once forgot to eat lunch and dinner until about 10 3) Affecting your sleeping habits. I've stayed up until 3 am to finish a really good book. 4) Affecting you genral mood/persanailty. If I don't get to read the newst release, like, now I get cranky. 4) affection your personal/social life. I've skipped going to parties to read. Of course I'm not giving up my addiction any time soon. |

Yes. Yes, I am. Apparently it is inherited too. My sister and both my parents had the same debilitating habit, completely unable to not read anything. If it has words on it I will read it. Billboards, advertisements, those annoying streamers at the foot of TV shows. Labels on everything I buy. Arrrgh. And then there are books and ebooks. Did you know that there are far more free ebooks than I can possibly read? And yet, there I go, purchasing as many ebooks as I can possibly afford, impulse buying pbooks if I even walk past a bookstore. (Even if on the opposite side of the street if the posters are big enough. ) |

Love to read... anything and everything. However, two months ago I purchased a used embroidery machine which is quite consuming. Nothing else, besides the kids and grands, have ever been able to bump a good book. |

Is every free moment in your life spent reading? Just about. Is your TBR pile bigger than your expected lifespan is long? Between my pbooks & e-books ...yeah. Would you rather be reading right now? Yeah...In a way I am. I'm reading this board instead of working. If you said yes, here's a question for you: Before you became an Obsessive/Compulsive Reader, did you have other obsessions? Hobbies? Collections? I can't remember when I wasn't an O/C reader, but was limited by how many books the library would let me check out.. But I also have 6 dogs(and if I had room.... ) & I used to collect teddy bears...Finally had to donate them in order to make room for all my books. Do you still? Collect things. Not so much anymore. There is only so much room. Between my pack rat husband & my books & the small house we live in... Has reading satisfied your need? For the most part. I still get urges to adopt more dogs, |

I read obsessively. When I was younger I used to have to wash dishes by hand. I mastered reading any book (including quite thick ones), one handed, and still finishing the dishes fairly quickly. I can hold nearly any book one-handed in such a way that I can turn the pages with my thumb of the same hand. I will say that the spines never recover from this sort of treatment and I don't recommend it for people who enjoy real books. I sew clothes by hand for the SCA (medieval fun). I embroider. I naalbind and sprang (if those two nouns can be turned into verbs). I tablet weave. I spin copious amounts of wool by hand using a drop-spindle. I crochet a little, although it mostly involves chain-stitching my hand-spun wool into a sort of thicker cord and then not doing anything with it. I MUD (sort of like World of Warcraft without the graphics). I write macros for my MUD client. I work on PHP scripting. I set up different sorts of linux servers just to see if I can. I own three laptops plus one desktop media center and I'm usually lucky if one of the four works (because I'm constantly tinkering with them). I study financial and investing books. I research stock and buy it directly from the companies without paying brokers fees. While doing all of this I listen to audio-books or TTS, when I can't read an ebook while doing the activity involved. |
