Can someone help me out? I don't understand what it means to "like" a company with a Facebook page.

I have been to a number, and they all want me to "like" them. What will happen if I do click on the "like" button?

By the way, I am a member, not active except for one private forum I frequently check into.

I'm not a member, nor plan to become one. I don't hate Facebook or the company running it (though I _don't like_ the fact that one can't delete his/her account but only de-activate it), but simply don't need it.

I am a member of a lot of social networks, some I use a lot some I use very little. I have thought about joining facebook, but I would end up not using it.

Thumbs up Facebook LOVER!!

Hello, All.

Yes, I'll admit it. I am a Facebook LOVER!! For me, it is a WONDERFUL way to keep in touch with long distance (and short distance) family and friends.

I have a very large Photo Album library that i use to share family photos back and forth with family (both recent and old to ancient) as they do with me.

As for social networking, I find Facebook THE BEST way to keep in touch with old friends and new friends. I will admit that I am VERY SELECTIVE as to whom I befriend, however; once a friend, let's chat!

Now. Having written the above, let me elucidate a bit...

1) I don't play games.
2) I don't get involved in contests.
3) I occasionally send hugs, hearts, drinks, etc. BUT only to close family or friends.
4) I DO keep my profile locked down to friends only other than the seach option which I keep global.
5) I do keep "up" with Facebook on my desktop PC at home as well as on my iPod Touch and my Kindle Browser.

Facebook? Works for me!

Regards,

Vandy

I had to click both it is a great social networking site and it is a time wasting brain draining site since both apply depending on my mood at the time. I don't play any of the games or contests, and don't accept or give gifts. I just use it to catch up with people from my past and make plans with people from my present. I keep the privacy settings high,

I am a member, and also selected love it and hate it, as it depends on my mood.

I use it mostly for keeping in contact with friends, mutually ignoring people whilst maintaining the pretence we stay in touch, and finding out what's happening with another forum I'm on when it's down. So far none of my school friends (or "friends") have found me on it, possibly they don't know my married name

I am a member. I have my profile locked down so that it is unsearchable, except for that one time they opened it up and I got found by one of my husband's cousins. (I accepted his invitation and locked it back down and now get invites every couple of weeks or so from other family members.)

I use it to "like" businesses and companies, to get coupons, deals and special offers. I have never finished filling out my profile and I don't post to anything.

I can not remember if any of my likes are from contests. Nearly all of my likes are local businesses, since they have stopped sending emails in favor of just posting on Facebook.

I have at least one like that was for a contest -- the Namco people were at the Mall of America when we were there, doing some sort of PacMan promotion, and I let myself be persuaded to enter. They had a computer for me to log in, register, and log out again. I would not have followed an online link, nor searched for a specific page, to enter a contest.

I'm not a member and have no intention on becomming one. To be truthful these sites tend to scare me , we are constantly being told toguard our personal information ,shred information ,never give out info to people that w don't know. However on these sites people willing go through a process of verbal diaherria and publish as much info as possible right down to schedules and even what they are doing minute to minute . these are a stalkers paradise ,and an identity thief's bread and butter ,it's actually surprising that more people are not hijacked . On another note as far as being found by ex-classmates and friends is concerned ,if I wanted these prople to contact me then they would have my contact info already . I have also made sure that people I don't want to hear from don't have it . Now don't jet me started on Twitter etal .. some people are so obsessed with listing all their daily doing on these sites and others reading about other people that they don't have time to go just have a life of their own . I would rather go andenjoy my wife and kids then wasting time telling other people who have no lives of their own what I am doing ...

Have to concur with the Codfather and Grandma of the desert... Sheer WASTE of time. Have had heaps of people trying to get me to join Facebook and other social websites. Well, So I can get an email from an old friend I haven't seen for 20 years? No, thanks no interest. Email me, phone me, MR me or **** ***.

Facebook just reminds me of the "lemmings" effect of gadgets, toys, fashion etc. Everyone has the the latest "thing" so you HAVE to have it??? No thanks.

As others have said with MR, reading books, email and hobbies...for me chess, running, biking, etc.... no time for yet another 'thing'. And as said already...Don't even get me started with Twitter... I think the first four letters of that kind of describe it thoroughly.

It's a good way to keep in touch w/family just do't get involved with the games.

I think it's useful tool as long as you don't get carried away.

I've got real mixed feelings about Facebook, but I see I use it about the same way you do. Living half way around the world from where I was born and raised, it has been very handy for getting back in (admittedly superficial) contact with a number of people I hadn't seen or heard from in years.

I don't do any of the games and avoid "liking" anything (for fear of the resulting spam), but it is fun to respond now and then to the postings of friends or share a particularly interesting video clip or photos. I post status updates a couple times a month, usually fairly banal things but just something to let folks know I'm still alive and kicking.

A couple younger family members I'm "friended" with are rather amazing, though, in the things they post. Makes me glad I'm not their parents - and I guess it keeps me somewhat in touch with the crazy stuff "kids" are into back in the US these days.

I did join this year for work contacts and a few family members but I don't really use it. I find it noisy. I mostly hate it.

The only thing I like is when I get updates from certain authors that I like, learning about various events in my city and the goings on with a few businesses and causes I have interest in.

I'm a member only because that is the only way I'm staying in contact with family. Seems e-mails take too much time now.
