At the moment B&N is selling certified pre-owned Nooks. Wifi $119, 3G $149.
So if you are looking for cheap Nooks...

I thought Amazon had never released sales figures for the Kindle--have they now done so?

Not a problem. At it's current price, it's not on my list anyway.

treadlightly, last year Newegg had sales for Thanksgiving weekend and mid-December. My guess is that they will do so again this year.

I suggest that you go over to newegg.ca and see what they carry, and then consider if you would be interested if the price dropped 30%.

Nope but the K3 sold out almost as soon as it was released. There eneded up being a series of waves were people had to wait up to two months for a K3. I think that is good anecdotal evidence that the K3 is selling well. This included the WiFi only and 3G/WiFi models in both white and graphite.

The K3 was hard to come by for a few months.

Target sells Kindles and Sonys. You can get $10 off on BF.

Technically that is not $10 off that is a Gift certificate for $10 off at a later date. So you have to go back and spend more money. It is nice but your Kindle or Sony will cost the same. I guess you could buy one on that day, get the gift certificate and go back later to buy a second one, if you needed two e-readers.

If I buy a Kindle at Target I pay
$139 for product
$11.50 for taxes
$2.00 in gas to get there
$152.50 total

If I buy from Amazon.com all I pay is $139 and I don't have to deal with crowds, cashiers, driving, etc.

There are not too many deals that I would venture out at 5:00 am on Black Friday for. Talk about mayhem!

If that's all you went there for, then it's not a good deal. This for people who go to stores on BF. Also:
  • not all states have a sales tax
  • some states charge sales tax on Amazon purchases
  • some states haves a sales tax low enough to make it worthwhile

8.25% here in Texas (no income tax though )

I still stand by my Black Friday thoughts. It would take one heck of a great deal to get me out there on BF. I hate shopping on a normal day, let alone BF.

This is for people who shop at Target regularly; like me. All they have to do is to use the card for something they'd buy anyway. So in the end, it's $10 worth of free money.

Free gift cards for full price purchases only have value if they're from stores you normally shop at.

I don't blame you. I only went to one store last year. The rest of my shopping was online.

I'm the suspicious type. Without real figures about how many were produced and how many were sold, I suspect a sales ploy--planned scarcity to make the Kindle seem more attractive to potential buyers.
