Aprilbeginnings, what we're saying involves just using the computer, not the Sony software... if it automatically opens then close it before doing anything then look in My Computer under Windows... no other software running and see if you can see an extra drive to normal. If you do then that is your reader and you can add books to it by dragging and dropping...

Just called sony for the update, that is why the reader cannot be seen with the cord, it needs that firmware update. The drivers are actually installed within the unit etc. So I await my shipping label etc for free repairs.

I checked back at BB, and they FINALLY have the 350 and 950 on display. I know the screen on the 350 is the same size as my 300, but it sure looked bigger. I loved the display, but will stick with my 300 for now.

The salesman was trying to be helpful, but he was clearly clueless about my main need for a reader. He told me the nook was best because it was android based and was the only reader you could loan books out with. I pointed out that I don't need a multi-purpose device to read a book, and they are no longer the only device to allow loaning, as Amazon announced that Kindle would allow it. He also seemed to think most if not all books could be lent. I hated to inform him that, no, it is only a few, as the publishers had to allow it, and you can pretty much bet the Agency 5 wouldn't. He didn't know about the Agency 5, or how some publishers were forcing their own pricing on ebooks, until I explained.

On a related humorous note, when anyone touched either nook at BB it set off alarms that had to be reset. They couldn't just disable the alarm, all they could do is reset them. So they have two demos that can only be admired from a distance. As I wandered the store I heard it go off several more times. I walked out after telling someone they should really look into turning off the alarm so people could actually try out the demos.

None of the Best Buy stores within 50 miles of me have gotten their 950s yet, and the available date for web orders keeps getting pushed back and back and back. They either grossly underestimated the demand or they're having a tough time getting enough Pearl screens from the manufacturer.

My guess is production of the Pearl screens is not ramped up enough for Sony to get units in all the retail stores they want.

I stopped by my local Best Buy yesterday to get Toy Story 3 and the sound of Music collectors set.. anyway, I saw that changing the setup to the old Sony Area. I asked the guy if they are getting the 650 anytime soon and he didn't know.

At least they are now using the proper devices.

Also the Best Buy by my school had the demo today setup for the 950 and 350. It just seems like they are only pushing those 2 models...

How come the 650 ain't getting the same kind of love. Whats up with that?

They emailed me a shipping label to print, so I did that and took it to FED ex for packaging and shipping, so it's out of here since last night. Now to see how long it will take to get it back. Oh, yeah, the salesman at BB thought the Sonys they had out were discontinued. I told him that those were the new models, well, two of the new models. I give him credit for knowing Sony HAS new models.

I got my 650 at FutureShop the last week of Sept - they weren't on the shelves yet but I bugged a clerk and he brought some down from inventory. It worked 3 days and then the screen went wonky so I brought it back and got a replacement, which is working just fine. I absolutely love the pearl screen - so much nicer than the 600 (which I bought last April).

It would not do that, as I said the reader (not the software) is not recognied when plugged in the computer, hence the reason the unit needs to be mailed in, needs a firmware update, it is not recognied by win 7 64 bit. There were NO extra drives showing at all. Sony CS as much said so. Th unit had to go in and well it's on it's way. Poor thing is 4 years old.. LOL

You can always buy a Sony product from a Sony authorized dealer with your Sony Visa card and submit a form to redeem your points for credit on your monthly statement. That's how I plan to pay for my new 350.

I bought a Sony PRS-650 at the Sony Centre at Chatswood (Sydney) last night. The online store was showing no stock, so I rang the store and asked them if they had any red ones in stock because Sony is the only place you can get the red ones. The guy said they had them in stock. I drove over there (45 minutes) and when I got there the only red ones they had were two display models that had been in the window.

I bought one anyway because it still looked brand new and nobody had played with it because it was in the window. I really wanted the red one and thought the other Sony stores probably wouldn't have one either.

They also had the cases and the online store was showing them as out of stock as well. I bought the red one with the light.

So far I am really thrilled with it, except that they had cleared the memory on it before they packed it back in the box, so there were no files on it at all. I know it should have had the user manual etc on it, but I am not sure if anything else should have been on there. Can anyone tell me what theirs had? Did it have any pictures for the standby screen or music or anything? Mine was completely empty. I hate that! I like to save whatever originally was on a device so that if I sell it later I can restore it to how it was when new.
