I never thought about it. I think I just saw someone here or in another thread refer to his devices as listed on the left, so I assumed, mistakenly, that that is where mine must be as well. Now let me see how to put them on the left.

My device gets recharged every night, so I seldom see the battery drop below a 70% charge, and if I'm traveling, a charger goes with me. I understand low battery consumption as a major feature of eInk, but I've been conditioned to top off regularly by PDA use: mine is one of the devices that keeps data in volatile RAM and loses everything if the battery totally discharges. The ebooks and most apps all live on SD cards, and it's backed up regularly, so recovering from an outage is an annoyance, not a disaster, but I don't need that sort of annoyance and make sure it doesn't occur. ______ Dennis |

Define "teenager". I'm thinking about the "tween" market. Many of them already have cell phones and iPods, so a reader isn't a stretch. If the kid can be trusted to have/use a cell phone and/or MP3 player without loss/breakage, they should be able to deal with a reader.

I can see readers for even younger kids, but that will depend on the kid. ______ Dennis |

And I had a brain fart: my signature isn't an actual board signature: it's embedded as message text. I don't use an actual board signature, so you should see it. Like I said, I think you're using a MobileRead theme intended for mobile devices that drops board signatures to save space. ______ Dennis Last edited by DMcCunney; 11-03-2010 at 05:19 PM. |

Besides the contrast difference, Pearl is faster to refresh the screen then the original Vizplex.

My 13 year old is begging me for a Nook because she reads about one adult novel every week. She has read like that since 4th grade. My 9 year old has had a Nintendo DS $150.00 since she was 7 and both my older children had older models of this expensive electronic device at age 7. I have a nephew with an iTouch at age 6. In today’s world of handheld electronics kids grow up with then and if you teach how they must be treated many (NOT ALL) can handle these devices at a very young age. My 9 year old is in 4 th grade and has been asking for cell phone for over a year because many of her friends have one. My older children waited until 6th grade and a few years ago that seemed totally reasonable, even in that short period of time I would guess 30% of her 4th grade class now have cell phones. This week my youngest turns 10 and she wants an iTouch, she has collected all her birthday money and has enough. I have no concern getting her one, I do realize that I have a duty teach her how to take care of it. I can totally see kids under the age of 10 using their parents NookColor to read children’s books and play games etc. I know every parent is different I would just hope that most of the posters stating that they do not see parents giving kids these devices actually are parents. I think they are very wrong, I also see the NookColor as more of a shared family device like a wii gaming console. I forgot to mention my 15 year old son is allergic to books (apparently)

Someone likes red, someone likes blue. If you like red and get pissed off that someone else dismisses beauty of red colour and likes blue....you have got a problem. Intolerance? Anger management? I, personally, don't care one bit whether someone likes to read off of LCD. I just dismiss any LCD screen based gadget as potential ebook reader. It is my opinion. A friend of mine said once that he will never pay more £100 for ebook reader. He believed it was not worth more. At the same time I paid £250 for PRS-500 and £220 for PRS-505. Utter disrespect to ebook readers and eInk technology! He was reading off of his palm/laptop/mobile phone. Should I have challenged him to a duel?
