Oh dear. Looks very much like a broken screen to me - in which case there is really no alternative except to send it back to Amazon for repair/replacement.

That is a broken glass substrate. You need to call Amazon. Do you use a cover?

It looks really really dead. Kindle customer support has been great, I'll just have to mail it back to them.

Thanks

This is a damaged screen and not a manufacturing or hardware fault. Something hit or pressed hard against the screen around the area where all the lines meet up. A faulty screen wouldn't look like that at all. Get a cover that protects the screen area otherwise you're going to end up breaking your replacement Kindle in a similiar way.

Yes, it is definitely a broken screen. If Amazon replaces it, get a cover before you take the replacement out of the box.

Take everything you read on these posts with a grain of salt, realizing of course, that some people don't even own a kindle but still like to complain / elevate the status of their inferior readers!! [btw I don't mean you guiyoforward] Lots of great info on this board but you have to sort through the bad as well!

I'm not exactly sure which posts you're complaining about here?

Thread looks like a crime scene to me. It's hard to believe you haven't noticed when it's happened. I'm quite Kindle conscious when I carry it around and feel every hit and knock it gets.

It doesn't need to be a hit or knock though so it might not be immediately obvious. Its just if something is pushing against the screen then there is a chance it will crack the glass. If you don't have a case which has a hard protective layer for the screen then just bouncing off other items in your bag could possibly do it. You won't notice until next time you use your Kindle and find its got a messed up screen.

That said, this isn't due to a fault or a bad design by Amazon. It is just how display screens are.

I'd like to see gorilla glass screens. I realize it's not necessarily going to happen -- too expensive for now. But, my phone has gorilla glass and it seems like magical stuff .

Why not just go all the way and make it out of Trivex with anti reflective coating, would only be a few hundred dollars, lewl
