I forgot to mention how I got burned by the Minidisc. I know I shouldn't hold it against the Reader but Sony has burned me so many times I just have to return the Reader for the Kindle...as much as I hate to.
Damn Minidisc :-) Damn Betamax :-) I have been burned by Sony a lot over the years now that I think about it. Actually if Sony can learn from the Kindle and the iPod they might be able to turn this thing around but I doubt it. Just my lowly 2 cents! Greg |

I find it ironic, but...
Sony Reader is available in the USA only at the moment. However, their only chance to attract new customers now is to sell outside the USA because current Kindle is tied to the USA, while Sony might be sold internationally. They got to realise an importance of support for languages other then English. Mind you I, personally, don't need it but I see it as the only road to success for Sony (well...temporary success. In the end amazon is gonna win anyway). One of the biggest attractions of Kindle is availability of content and fantastic prices on the content. However, it is all in English. While English is more or less an international language in business/travelling/technical literature, reading fiction for pleasure is altogether different animal. So, while Kindle is winning the USA market, Sony might try and win some of international market. They shoot themselves in the foot if they don't realise it. |

"So, I think Sony really is the one with the 'deep pockets' compared to Amazon... and if they wanted to do this, they could!"
Thanks for the correction, Bob! So Sony really does have the means; it's just a question of having the will. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "if they wanted to." Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/ |

As for my PRS-505, I'm quite happy with mine and I'm not going to stop using it. |

I could probably come up with some more examples, but this is a book I want and the first one I typed in ![]() |

One question: Would it be illegal to sell the Sony with the Sony books I bought for it still on it? Not all that many books (maybe 10) but an interesting question.... |

You can leave the books on there, but if you deregister the Sony from your Connect Account (which you'll do if you have any sense) the Sony will be longer be able to read them.

You could include the account and ebooks in the sale, and try to get more money. |

But isn't the account associated with your e-mail address, credit card, etc?

I said: Sony is already matching or coming within a couple of dollars of the Amazon prices.
Meanwhile the first fifty or sixty that I checked are indeed either the same price or within a dollar or two. I could probably come up with more examples, but those were the first fifty or sixty I looked at. Hmm. One, fifty, one, fifty. I think I'll have to stand by my original statement. |

I just bought a Sony Reader
After all the talk of the Kindle I took a harder look at what was out there and actually ordered and just received my blue Sony Reader. I like the form factor of the Sony Reader better (the two large buttons on the Kindle are way too easy to accidentally hit) and I really don't see a need to have such a large keyboard on a device that I use to view books on. While the wireless is a nice feature, after loading several books on the device there isn't really much of a need to interact with a computer or wireless service unless you subscribe to newspapers or something.
I am giving the Sony Reader a good evaluation over the next 30 days and will then decided if I am sticking with it or trying the Kindle again (I tested one out for about 15 minutes a couple months ago). |

I am going to purchase it for $9.99 and then read it on my 505. Plus I won't have DRM.
