So do NOT google "Apprentice Alf's Blog" and then do NOT go to that site to find links to download the tools needed to do strip DRM from within calibre.

stripping DRM for your own use is W-R-O-N-G!!

I'm going to have to put a wink here for you, because apparently some of us aren't reading between the lines of your post:

Or discussing something with a Karate instructor in Japanese. IOW there is nothing wrong with that and a whole lot right with it. Is it for everyone? No of course not but there is indeed nothing wrong with typing something to a computer to tell it to do something. People who look at it like it is some kind of exotic skill are the ones who are funny...to me, having to click on things to get a computer is about as non-intuitive as one can get. To apply this to the French restaurant, it would be like grunting and pointing at things on the menu as if you could not read it...
Why should I go through all the hassle if someone else has done it for me? (I'm not talking about buying a software program--that's not what I did, I just found the scripts to download and install.) Should I really spend years studying French before setting foot in a French restaurant if pointing gets me what I want to eat? Maybe it would make sense if I was going to spend time in Paris, but for one quick meal? Same thing here. And even if I typed in some script, it wouldn't be something I understood, I'd simply be copying like a monkey, so ... why NOT just download and be done with it?

To be honest, I don't know how the sarcasm could have been any more obvious, with out the poster going "THIS IS A JOKE!"

Just FYI for anyone who hasn't heard already. But due to a recent court case that went all the way to the supreme court, you now have the complete and legal right to strip DRM from anything you own. The kicker part of the decision is that it's still illegal to won the tools to do so. But I figure with the way that DRM's house of cards is falling apart like it is, that should come along soon.

No Catlady, the point isn't why you shouldn't do it that way; the point was there is nothing inherently wrong with (in this analogy) ordering in French if it makes sense to do so in that setting (or in say Chinese in an authentic Chinese restaurant, etc) and in some circumstances far more natural and intuitive. What I am saying is people that can pop open a window and talk to a computer in its own language are not the odd ones here...

The problem is, sarcasm is difficult to convey in text unless you know the personality of the author.
Anything that you assume will be understood as a joke is earnestly accepted as truth by someone, somewhere.

Exactly.
That's why I do it the most simple way and just type in the simple command that does all the searching, downloading and installing for me.

That's wrong.

That's no more morally wrong than it is to do your own car maintenance and use generic replacement parts.

I'm sorry, it's early and I'm dense, but what is 'won'?

And yes, honestly, how much clearer could the ironic poster be? I was smiling as I read it!

But, back to being dense, does 'put the python scripts with the calibre plug-ins' mean to put them into the calibre folder?

I haven't used the plugins or scripts in question myself, but if the howto says to install the scripts as Calibre plugins, this has a short note on how to do it.

In Calibre

Click Peferences
Click Plug-ins

Now in Calibre there are all sorts of plug-ins. Say For instance

File Type Plug-ins

So for instance, if you were installing a *certain type* of Plug-ins you might want to highlight

File Type Plug-ins

Then down the screen a bit at the bottom where it says Plug-In file you'd want to browse to where a certain Plug-In zip file would be stored on your computer and then click "Add"in Calibre.

Then, if your Plug-In came with any further directions, like how to Customize the Plug-In ---- those would probably be contained in a txt File called "ReadMe*XXXX" that you could open up to see how to make the Plug-In work for you specifically.
