Had no idea Fictionwise had completely dropped ePub and only has ereader format now.

I guess they are going for the mobile phone reader crowd, not e-reader device people?

Nothing B&N does to Fictionwise makes sense anymore, unless they're pounding the last few nails into the coffin. They've pretty much ensured that anyone with a modern dedicated ebook reader can't buy secured ebooks from Fictionwise. Just Nook owners and smartphones. And Nook owners can't organize or search for books bought from Fictionwise...

Since the ereader format is owned by Fictionwise, I'm thinking maybe they dropped the other formats as a cost cutting measure.

'spooky2010' is a fitting code.... it's down right spooky to see what's happened to FW in 2010. Last December when they had a big 60% rebate going, I spent too much money there. This year, my reaction to their sales is a yawn. Seems like B&N bought FW to get their DRM scheme and is now letting them die a slow death.

B&N bought FW to get a quick, pre-formatted inventory of books. When B&N bought FW, they also got the distribution rights to all the titles that were on the FW store. This allowed B&N to open their book store without having to create partnerships with all of the publishers separately.

It worked, but it's sad to see FW decimated. The loss of Micropay rebates also put a damper on my shopping there.

I used to check Fictionwise every week; at one point they got all of my ebook dollars. Now I hardly buy anything there.

Like sbtx99, I spent way too much money there last December. This year I'm having a hard time finding much of anything that even interests me. It makes me sad.

This thread reminded me that I meant to email FW and request cancellation and refund of my current membership...so I did just submit that through the website. We'll see what happens. The few books that I looked for specifically are only in ereader format so that is a no go as far as I am concerned. In only 2 yrs, I purchased 281 books from Fictionwise but can't find anything at the moment.

That is very recent - I bought a few Adobe epub at the end of September. I still found a few multiformat and a few ereader format that I wouldn't buy if it wasn't for ereader2html.

The only way I buy anything from them now is with at least a 50% off coupon - if you can find anything you want that can make it cheaper than other places, but not always.

FW is still putting up books in the Multiformat grab-bag of no-DRM formats, but you won't find any mainstream pubbed books in Multiformat.

MultiFormat is, however, pretty good for "classic" and backlist titles from fairly well-known-and-respected-in-their-field established genre authors, especially if you like sf/fantasy.

Like Isaac Asimov's In the Beginning: Science Faces God in the Book of Genesis, the only full-length MultiFormat work of his and one of his zillion non-fiction titles which were apparently very popular back in the day.

Or what probably adds up to the complete short stories of Harlan Ellison. And a significant chunk of the award-winning fantasy novels of R. A. MacAvoy, some of which I've just spent money upon; thanks OP for posting the coupon. Much appreciated!

Mind you, if you happen to like bestselling romantic literary travelogue thrillers or whatever, you're probably out of luck. And yeah, FW seems to have gone even further downhill, which is a feat, considering how far it had already fallen before.

All of the erotic romance is in Multiformat...no DRM from what I've seen.

Man, wish I saw this yesterday, I really wanted to buy Handling the Undead, but will never pay more than $7 for an eBook. This would have put it at $6
