Wow! Slow down!

I've been registered for the MR forums for a week now and I don't know how on earth all you guys have the time to read your eBooks and keep up with all the posts on these threads! I got up this morning and there were 7 or 8 'pages' full of new posts to read through, many with multiple entries on each thread. I'm trying to learn all about these toys (sorry, tools ) but I can't keep up with posts and have time to do any eBook reading, too! I'm beginning to become very selective with what I follow here but I'm also afraid I'll miss something. How do you do it?? Or have you given up reading eBooks?

Yes, it is difficult. But if it will make you feel better, I don't think anyone reads all the posts in every thread. I know I can't. And I have a vested interest in getting my name out and posting wherever I can about my books. But it's just impossible. I read what I can, post when I can, and try to live a normal life away from the computer. You'll find a balance that works for you.

Welcome to the forums! You can literally spend all day going through every post in every thread in every sub-section. I only keep up with sub-forums that interest me like:

Sony Reader
Reading Recommendations
Author Self-Promtions
Deals, Freebies and Resources

I'm actually writing this post while reading on my 650 and having a coffee! Multi-tasking at its finest!

I know what you mean. The "New Posts" option is a bust on here for me. On a daily basis I just browse:

News
General Discussions
Deals, Freebies, and Resources
Reading Recommendations
Android Devices
Calibre (occasionally)

If something catches my eye, I read the thread. If the thread is going on for pages, I'm less inclined to read it.

I've started subscribing to the forums I'm most interested in and only reading the other new posts if I have time.

The downside to this is that I seem to have subscribed to around a dozen forums...

I know, personally, I just stick to a handful of sections, and really only on the first page of each one. Plus if you check every day it does become easier.

I only pay attention to some threads. In fact, I have entire subforums on Ignore (the non-English ones, since I only read English, and the ones devoted to reader devices I have no plans to buy or use). It helps.

It still took some time to read the new posts, check other online magazines and newstickers AND read a bit. And i'm still playing a little bit Guild Wars.

So, no secret just pick your interests and read fast, type fast.

I only read books in bed at night. That leaves the whole day free for pestering people on the internets.

I felt that way at first, too. But after a while your need to keep up with everything will settle down, and you'll realize there's only a few topics that really interest you. It's a bit overwhelming when you first join!

Welcome, though!

I used to feel I had to read print newspapers cover to cover. Now, with electronic media, I can skim read the titles/first posts and happily discard 4/5 of news items/forum posts.

If you tried to read everything, it would become a miserable full-time job rather than an idle distraction.

The way I accomplish this task is I look at the headers and see which one interests me and I read those. Second I have an Aluratek Libra Pro, not one of the major brand names I know but it suits me, so I do not read threads (or seldom) read threads that relate to the kindle, Sony PRS, or the Calibre readers. If I do read threads about the other readers its out of simple curiosity and I generally don't read them all.
