I don't use the audio either, but if I was in nomesque's shoes (for a start she'd probably wonder what was going on...) and had to deal with a commute on a train, I'd have some Bach or Vivaldi or Abney Park going. But I mainly read in locations where surrounding noise is not an issue.

Something else I'd like to be able to do:
In a web browser, select a body of text, right-click, choose "send to Sony Reader". A dialog comes up allowing me to tidy up the text if necessary, give it a title, tag it, then save it. The next time my Reader's plugged in, the new file is transferred as an EPUB file. |

It did for LRF/LRX formats but not for other formats and as I understood it, even that was dropped from the most recent version of the Sony software as they switched to ePub.

Have you tried Instapaper? There are browser plugins that you let you send selected text to Instapaper, which converts the text to epub. You can either transfer them manually to your reader, or set up Calibre to sync the Instapaper feed to your device automatically.

I still like the sync feature. I know, everyone else hates it. ![]() |

Thanks for your review. I like my 650 v much too, but i wish the font could be darker. I know there are posts on font hacks but i'm not good at this so i'm not confident to diy. i dont even know how to strip drm in the first place! why cant sony have done like Nook - give a few choices of fonts to read! but thanks!

The Sync feature automatically makes the contents of your Sony Reader match the contents of the Sony Library. That's it in a nutshell. You can turn on or off the synching of individual Collections, but if synching is turned On for a collection, everytime the Reader is connected to the computer it will update the Reader to match the Library.
I find it much more intuitive than adding and removing books one at a time via Calibre or drag & drop. |
