OK, if we're being shameless, I've re-released "Slices of Life", an anthology of the Lompoc Writers Association, on Kindle and Smashwords for $0.99:

Kindle Store: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046ZRL4S/

Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/26775

Lots of poetry and prose (mine plus 7 or 8 other group members), and a fair variety of stuff. I'm also offering a contest for purchasers of the e-book, so check it out!

News about my books coming in the next month or so, I hope.

This is an unusual one, so please bear with me.

Not everyone is aware that my wife and I foster animals for the ASPCA and other organizations. We usually take the no hope cases, where the animals aren’t expected to survive or need specialist care. Over the last few years, we've rescued dozens of cats and dogs and found them new homes. Our family pets are all rescues -- ones that we couldn’t give up after the care we'd given them.

Our cat, Bug, was one of those rescues we couldn’t let go of after we’d taken him in. After five fun fill years, Bug died over the weekend. He was a great cat and a lot of fun to have around the house. We’re going to miss him a lot.

In Bug’s honor, I’m going to donate all eBook royalties earned at Amazon and Smashwords.com for the next two weeks to Best Friends, an organization I truly admire. This applies to the following titles:

The Fall Guy
http://www.amazon.com/The-Fall-Guy-ebook/dp/B00427YO2W
The Scrubs
http://www.amazon.com/The-Scrubs-ebook/dp/B003DQNXTS
Road Rash
http://www.amazon.com/Road-Rash-ebook/dp/B003DZ1EU4
Asking For Trouble
http://www.amazon.com/Asking-For-Tro.../dp/B003GIRSTY
Working Stiffs
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VWKG2C
Dragged Into Darkness
http://www.amazon.com/Dragged-into-D.../dp/B002HWSLFU

Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/SimonWood

Please feel free to share this appeal on Twitter, Facebook or your blog. If there's a strong showing, I’ll extend the appeal. Thanks for listening.

Tickled pink by news today that BeWrite Books author Michael McIrvin's The Blue Man Dreams the End of Time has been named as finalist for the annual Epic Award.

Michael's Blue Man noir thriller was up against massive and stiff competition in the mystery/suspense fiction section from ebooks entered by publishing houses all over the world.

The winner will be announced at the international EPICon Convention in March, 2011 in Historic Williamsburg, Virginia.

You can read about Michael and his noir thriller in the BeWrite Books bookstore at http://www.bewrite.net. It's available from the BB store and all major and minor stores in paperback and ebook formats.

Huge congratulations to Michael. Fingers crossed for the final. The Blue Man Dreams the End of Time is a superb piece of work that I'm proud to have been involved in and it deserves top billing.

FIRST half-dozen fellow-MobileRead members to drop me an email have the ebook with our compliments in the format of their choice: PDF, ePub or Mobi.

Cheers and best wishes. Neil ntmarrATbewrite.net (but use the @ sign)

I'm running a wee monthly competition at my Facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/williammeikle

It is for fans of the FB page only.

To enter all you have to do is leave a comment on my wall at the above page. Anything goes except spam. At the end of every month I'll draw a winner from the names of everyone who has commented that month and they'll get a free ebook.

This month's book is my Lovecraftian PI tale THE MIDNIGHT EYE FILES: THE AMULET and this month's draw will take place on Halloween at the toll of the bells.

Still unconvinced? Read a new review here...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Amulet. Mr. Meikle’s ability to tell a story that intertwines different traditions and yet does not seem derivative at all is very impressive. It leaves me wanting to read more about his hero and the predicaments he gets himself into. I give The Amulet a 4 out of 5 and a hearty “Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!” for a job well done.

Great to see Willie Meikle beginning to receive the recognition he truly deserves. The Watcher Omnibus is an inspired read. I highly recommend it.

Hey everybody,

Just a quick plug. My first mystery, THE GRAY AND GUILTY SEA, is available for both the Nook and the Kindle at a special promotional price of only 99 cents until the paperback version is published. I hope some of you will give it a whirl.

You can visit my website for more about the book, if you're interested. Thanks for your patience guys. Don't want to clog up the boards with a lot of promotional stuff, but at 99 cents, I thought a few of you might want to check it out. Hoping, anyway.

Thanks,
Jack

Latest review of Boomerang. She was nice enough to post it on Amazon, Smashwords and Shelfari. I think she liked it!

Review by: Carol on Oct. 23, 2010 : star star star star star
I loved this book! Alan Hutcheson is a very talented writer. I am amazed at how he set the stage for this story. Each chapter of the book details the events of different characters that in the beginnning seem unrelated. However, as the story unfolds, each character or set of characters are drawn from places as far away as Australia to a little house in Arizona. Once each party involved in this tale find their way to a dark, soggy Arizona backyard in their pursuit of a handcrafted boomerang, the conclusion of their quest is delightful, entertaining, and satisfying . The characters are funny - some are wonderfully likeable, and some you just like to hate. I plan to read this book again sometime soon!

Hi Folks,

I'm happy to report that as of this week, The Gateway, Book 1 of the Harbinger of Doom saga, has gone past 11,000 total sales!

THE HARBINGER OF DOOM SAGA

The Harbinger of Doom saga centers around one Lord Angle Theta, an enigmatic warrior of unknown origins and mystical power. No mortal man is his match in battle. No sorcery can contain or confound him. No scholar or sage can outwit him. But for all his skills, he is but one of us; a man, a human, who shares our faults, our dreams, and our ambitions. He boldly strides across the land, fearless, peerless, and cloaked in mystery; all his will bent on righting such wrongs as he deems fit.
Until the day the Gateway opened and turned the world on its head. On that fateful day, Korrgonn came and washed away our dreams. And his outre' realms of chaos set their unholy mark upon our world and claimed it for their own.
Only Theta and his companions see the enemies aligning against us. Only they foresee our end coming -- the end of civilization, the end of the world of man. Only they can hope to turn the tide of madness and preserve all that we hold dear.
But no man, not even our greatest hero, can stand against the Lords of Chaos and the dark armies of Nifleheim at their command. Fiends that infiltrate unseen within our ranks, that tear down our temples and our traditions; that devour us from within, unseen, unknown, unheralded, and unopposed until the hour grows far too late.
Through the murk and mist that hangs before our eyes, one man only sees true. One man pierces the veil of magic that blinds us all and marks the world as it truly is, revealing secrets, secrets of Angle Theta, so horrifying as to shatter a man's mind and call into question the very nature of good and evil.
Join us now on our journey back to the days of high adventure.
