RIM announces BlackBerry PlayBook tablet

This device reminds me of a palm product (before the Pre) that they announced which was designed to be a cheap add on accessory to your existing smartphone and provide superior browsing and document viewing experience to that platform without really having any real stand alone functionality. Palm ultimately abandoned that project but it seem like RIM has taken a leaf from their page.

My point was that it was silly to try and slap down a person's reasonable comment by posting a definition that doesn't invalidate the point the person was making about it's usage being north american-centric in nature and as for your latest suggestion of playstation that is a completely different matter entirely as it has had its meaning built up as part of its brand in the same manner as stuff like kindle or ipod.

No price means they aren't launching it right now that's all, inferring anything else at this point is just you being overly negative for the sake of it since it makes far more sense commercially for them to save the announcement of pricing for when they officially announce the launch date.

Also, I think you are showing your ignorance of the development cycle of commercial products if you think that they would not have finalised the hardware by now, at this point in a products life cycle then the actual hardware will have been finalised with possibly only the casing being non-final at this stage.

There will be a certain degree of it being a complimentary product since they will want blackberry sales to drive playbook sales and vice versa, but this will be a proper tablet first with the blackberry integration being a usp for the tablet rather than being its only reason to exist.

You don't think that's what Blackberry wants ? to build up it's brand name ?
Where do you think it starts ? I remember when playstation was first introduced to North America people thought it was a horrible name like something for kids. i.e. 'gameboy'

To be fair, new RIM products with touchscreen no longer require the user to "click" the screen like the Storm and Storm2 did, and that seems to be most people's problem with them.

On the Torch, RIM has given the touchscreen the same feel as Apple and Android devices. Meaning more inertia for scrolling with bounce at the end. More interaction by swipe and pinch versus mostly by click. And so on.
