I'm completely alone in matters of books and reading. I've offered a book (which I know my GF would like) almost a year ago and she didn't reach half of it yet. But that's because she doesn't have any reading habits... One day she read almost 100 pages in a single sitting. The problem is that she stops and takes weeks to pick the book again and by then she forgot many things.
I always find it a little bit difficult to start reading a new book, so I can imagine what feels like pick up a book again, after weeks without reading. I've already told her to read as often as she can, even if it's only a couple pages at a time... But whatever, I'll certainly won't insist. Or she might get ideas about using my Kindle ![]() |

I prefer a partner who like to read, one with whom you can discuss books an literature, but I've rarely had the luck to have a BF/GF who did like to read. Currently, I'm that lucky situation and I enjoy very much to be able to share my interest. Even if I actually don't read much at the moment, books and reading is still an important part of who I am.

My DH will read for enjoyment, but only when he has enough time to finish the book in one shot (he really hates setting a book down in the middle for longer than a bathroom run or kitchen run. Dunno if it's a autism-spectrum thing or not). He does spend a lot of time on Web forums, Wikipedia, etc.
I usually have two or more p-books in progress (only one is rare), and at least one e-book (usually during wait times, when traveling if I'm not driving, and such). |

My situation could not be better, from this point of view. Not only my partner enjoys reading, but also loves to engage in pleasant, enlightening and challenging discussions. To me it is a renowned source of joy to admire the depth of her culture, and the finesse of her opinions. The wide difference of age between us leads me constantly to revise my ingrained opinions and prejudices. I find this absolutely divine. Yes, divine. The reverse side of the coin is that time is scarce. But I think it is much better to have many things to share and little time for it than the contrary.

My gf has never read a book in her own life. No joke.
I lent her a book two years ago and she hasn't finished it yet. I don't even think she will... |

My husband doesn't read for pleasure. He will read a forum or two online, but not much else. I, too, read more last week than he has in the last decade. Heck, in the entire 22 years of marriage, I would say.

My husband NEVER used to read for pleasure, but slowly (and believe me, this took years of watching me gulp down books) he has begun to find pleasure in reading, and while he doesn't read as much as I do, I believe that he has come to enjoy reading as much as I do. He is inheriting my PRS-505 when I upgrade it this year (as good a reason to upgrade as any).

I don't think I could be in a serious relationship with a non-reader. I need someone who understands when the overwhelming need to slip off with a book is almost more important than anything else

The only times I've regretted (but at all seriously) that the yeti is an avid reader too is when we've both wanted to read the same new book at the same time!

Or just drop the "Significant Other" nonsense.
