It shows in my Kobo library on the web.

It shows in my Kobo computer application library.

It will not load into my e-reader using the Kobo application sync. It says it loads it, but it's not in the library of the reader.

I have purchased and sync'd three previous new books since getting the reader four days ago.

(Windows 7 64 bit. No problems until now)

I can confirm I have the same problem.
a) book shows up on the web site
b) book shows up in the desktop app
c) book doesn't show up in the reader after sync'ing successfully

I've tried sync at first with the v1.7 firmware (it asks you if you want to update; I declined) and then upgraded to v1.7.1 firmware. The book does not show up in the reader.

Interestingly enough, I do get a file copied to the "\.kobo\kepub" folder; GUID filename but shows with the current date/time stamp.

Does this come with the new firmware for the original kobo readers?

No, that is not ready yet (though I understand it is actively being worked on)

Yep, same here. I can see the new book loaded into the "\.kobo\kepub" folder dated today, but my e-reader can not see it.

I think they have a bug..... evrything else is great, just don't buy any new books.

Same problem here

I'm having the same problem here - error in event log with nickel.dll referenced. I can send details if you want but it looks exactly like the one already posted. I am also on Windows 7 64Bit so maybe that's a common denominator...

Until this gets resolved, is there a way to roll-back to the old version? Is there a download link to the old version available?

Hi everyone,
We are currently doing a code promotion on our servers that is causing a few unexpected hiccups. This will be completed this evening, and most of the issues you are experiencing should go away on their own. We're very sorry - this shouldn't happen, and we will do better.

I had two books in i'm reading on the website, both dowloaded to my 1.7 (and change) desktop reader, sync appeared to happen--but only one of the two books appears to have made it onto the reader itself. Running XP 32 bit, service pack 3.

When I get home, I can try on my Windows 7 64 bit.

Whoops, JC posted the past above this one as I was editing.

Is the sync'ing issue going to be resolved in this code promotion?

One other thing, the sync'ing via wifi works fine with the 1.7.1 firmware; my new book is showing up. So there is this workaround.

The "code Promotion" does not resolve the sync issue causing new books purchased after the 1.7.1 firmware and application installation to not be readable by the ereader.

Again, the issue after installing the 1.7.1 is:

a) new purchased book shows up on the web site.
b) book shows up in the desktop app.
c) book doesn't show up in the reader after sync'ing successfully with the USB cable.

Is there any way we can go back to the previous software? I cannot read a new purchased book. I hesitate to use the "wireless fix", since that doesn't really resolve the issue.

Well, Ltr, using your WiFi does let you read the book! I thought I would probably never use the WiFi, but surprise, surprise, surprise. I may even take a look at the free trial newspaper subscriptions.

It's early in the morning, let's let JCKobo sleep in a little longer, he's had some late nights recently . I'm sure he'll check in with a status report. They do need a fix though--and sooner, rather than later.

I hoped to update my Kobo firmware last night with no success. I updated my Kobo Desktop to 1.7.1, plugged in my original Kobo (running the updated 1.4 firmware), waited, and ... nothing. No wizard popped up, all I got was a Windows Explorer window.

Am I missing something? I don't remember the firmware update process for 1.4 requiring me to do anything special to get it started.

Yesterday was a desktop application only update for the original Kobo, but library updates are faster, and menu changes within the desktop itself are much more responsive--hence the peppy remark. The actual device update is still being worked on.

My understanding is that the firmware update for the original kobo (no wifi) has not been released. It is the next thing to be done from what I read in other posts. 1.4 is the most recent firmware.

Edit: I see Taming and I were replying at the same time but he types faster!

ltr,
We had our team up late last night trying to diagnose this issue. The closest we can find to a way to produce it in our lab is to sync on WiFi first, then on the Desktop app. The resolution is to do a factory reset of the device and then sync it to the Desktop only.

Can you give that a try?

We are working on a fix for a 1.7.2 app as well - as soon as I have an ETA, I'll post an update here.
