You can press Control-Shift-P while in your library to toggle this feature. Give it a try and see if it gets faster.
Thank you sir. I have tried the workaround you've suggested and can confirm that v1.7 is working fast now.

The reps have said that they recognise the issues and are working on it, so it's pretty well known the app needs some work.

I think the dude is just frustrated and venting; i wouldn't get too worked up mate.
Yes, it was frustrating.

However, having said that I do agree with HamsterRage that: "very technical users are an absolute nightmare to deal with"

First off, because all I've done to earn money for my entire adult life is to build software I know what it takes to get it right, I know how difficult it is and I know how complicated it is to test. And I know that there's no such thing as "bug free, non-trivial software". So for kadnium to extrapolate from his statistically insignificant sample of "one" that the Kobo team has produced inadequately tested, "shitty" software is just plain not fair.
As someone else who has spent his entire adult life earning a crust from programming, I must say that I agree with you 100% HamsterRage!

Couldn't have put it better myself...

Wow! I would never guess, not in even million years!
Using some utility like dsniff or tcpdump could be of help
to analyze the traffic and what and where tries to con-
nect. Probably developer office used proxy to debug
wifi issues and it got into the firmware unnoticed?

It's supposed to be in there, but it should do a better job of detecting/turning itself off. We put it in there for a partner, but don't need it defaulted to on (which is why we're turning in off in the update we're about to push out)

It reminds me how people complain on geographical restrictions.
If Kobo fires up one server to be proxy for all those willing to buy
books in ie states or Canada, it could serve to that purpose.
I'm aware how much you hate the same idea to traffic to and from,
not knowing what it is.

Okay I will see if I can do this after breakfast when I'm more awake. No point in trying to do much beyond drinking coffee at the moment
