I think BB just doesn't have a clue. I rarely see the same sales staff twice because of their high turnover; at my local store anyway. Last year I had to argue with them for hours and make three trips to the store and multiple phone calls before I finally got a manager I knew from the camera dept. to go in the back storage area and look for the 300s. That is pretty frustating since I'm a Silver Premier Rewardszone customer at BB. This time around I decided to heck with BB and ordered my 350 directly from Sony. For you folks who were lucky enough to get a 950 over the past few days, I'm happy for you. But I still believe BB was not supposed to sell those yet. I suspect they were earmarked for demo units and you got lucky that your local BB staff was clueless. It seems like the only things my BB pushes is cellular phone plans, cameras, and TVs. They don't have a clue about anything else, and that includes computers. Last edited by jswinden; 10-24-2010 at 08:08 PM. |

yeah, anyone know for sure about that? Also curious if it will be strictly US only or somehow available in europe. I know that the 3g would only work in the US, but that's besides the point

yes, apparently the 950 will only be sold in the USA, as was the Daily Edition, because of the 3G connection for which they have a deal only for USA. I guess they could have done it for Europe also, and other countries as well, like Amazon did with the Kindle, but they didn't seem to care. The 950 is not listed on sony.fr. Too bad, but I'll try to get one from the US, because I want the wifi connection (for wikipedia search).

Agreed, that's why I miss Compusa, not fortunate to have Fry's or Microcenter near me. If the 950 was widely available I would purchase it from Borders, the staff there are highly objective and knowledgeable about ereaders.

A little too early to determine battery life, but I have managed a couple hours of reading with no drops in the battery level meter. I'll post again in a few days now that I have all my content transferred over. I must say, this is one sweet device.

Our Frys is terrible. It is by far the largest electronics store (in square footage) dwarfing all the rest. But today it has many empty shelves and a large portion of the items that are sold there have been returned or the box has been opened at the store. Pretty risky to buy there these days. Several times I've gotten home with what I thought was a brand new unopened item just to find out it had been opened and portions of the contents were missing. | |
