That if people want piracy to end things need to change? Might be. Thing is that things wont change. Since I made that post I havent seen one decent comment about it, just one about how its the same old argument. Let it be the same argument, why cant we come to some rational conclusion and try to find a solution? Seems were still running in circles and that might just be what the publishers are doing.

Well it's not. You said that the problem was due to DRM and geo restrictions. Then you said something else. You were wrong. The seller has the right to put drm on or restrict who they sell to. That gives no one the right to steal from them. End of story. |

Unless my browser is blanking out sections of posts, then, nowhere, in either of those posts, did he breathe a word about anyone's "rights". He simply offered solutions they could implement to reduce piracy. Last edited by Piper_; 10-22-2010 at 09:40 PM. |

You can't make up fantasy situations or solutions based on incorrect assumptions about what is really happening.

Exactly what? That your argument espousing that the current distribution model complete with restrictions on regions (Geographic restriction), DRM and non competitive pricing is the way forward? All I can say is thank God for the middle group because the two outer ones put up the same tired old, immobile narrow minded argument everytime without even offering any suggestions on how to fix the problem. Black and white with no shades of grey. |

Am I missing posts here? Who is talking about breaking the law? I talked about why they try to justify it and made a few suggestions on how to stop it altogether. Seeing alot of in this thread. Anyone listening to anyone or is it just read a few lines of a post, see something similar to what was already said, comment that its a bunch of junk and the same already said then leaving? Weve established that many believe its illegal. Weve established why they do it. Now how can we stop it? |

It was about how browbeating and trying to paint people in the worst light might feel good emotionally, but it seldom has positive results. As for ways to deal with piracy rationally, I think a lot of people have offered some good suggestions. I just wish the responses wouldn't be to indiscriminately accuse them of rationalizing or imposing on publishers rights, even when they are doing neither.

After all, reducing piracy by freeing up imposts that contribute to piracy is the best way forward? Apparently not, according to some.
