I got an email from "Reader Store" (took me a while to realize it was Sony and not sum unsolicited spam) that they now have much better support for Canadians: We are happy to announce that thousands of previously unavailable eBooks are now available for purchase in Canada. We apologize for any inconvenience over the past few months and are committed to providing you access to the widest selection of digital reading content. |

Yep. I have seen that many times - restricted to US only at Fictionwise, but Amazon will sell it to you. Pretty clearly Amazon and Kobo are the only companies interested in the international market, so may as well give them your money where possible. | |

We have the same problems in Australia - I get so angry when I want to buy a book and find that it's not available here. I wanted to buy the Lars Brownworth book "Lost to the West", but it only available here in P book, and at a higher price than I could get it by ordering the pbook from Amazon in USA. But I can buy the pbook from USA yet can't get the ebook here. Makes perfect sense doesn't it.

It's all due to the Agency model. The publishers are coming down hard with higher prices and geo-restrictions. It all started with Apple and there deal with the big publishers who saw there chance to change the way how e-books was sold up until then. In my opinion publishers couldn't care less if e-books succeeded or not. There main interest is to secure the future of the paper-books and there old fashion way of doing business. |
