A very sad day indeed, when that little companion passes. I so relate, and am very sorry for your loss. May you move into fond remembering soon.

I am so sorry for the loss of your furry little family member. I know that they can become like beloved children. Little Max died surrounded by love. Cheers. |

I'm so sorry Lene. I used to keep ferrets and felt the same way as each one passed.

I know people can decide when to die, like waiting for their family to come, or waiting for them to go - my father waited to my mother to go - and working in a nursinghome for many years I've seen it over and over. Max died within a couple of minutes of me picking him up.. I couldn't believe it.. He was all of a sudden so still, I touched his eyes, and there was no response - I knew he had gone. I held him for a long time - till he started to stiffen up, bagged him up and put him in the freezer... I'll bury him on Monday. His cage still hasn't been cleaned, but I'm sure someone (me) will do it soon. PS. Max was 3 years and 4 months old, so he did have a long life, as rats normally only live for around 2 years. Thanks everyone for your messages.. they mean a lot to me.. My family don't understand how I could be so sad over a rat... In fact - if I wasn't their mother, I might have thought they weren't my kids...

I can fully appreciate the timing of death thing...and having them in your arms.

When my wife's dog died (which still brings tears to my eyes), it'd been a long week of restless nights and assisting him outside to the bathroom - then suddenly all of us (5 people) knew it was time for him to die, it was a bit scary as he did whine a bit and struggle - something which I think is what haunts us still to this day. A peaceful death is something we all wish for (the dying included). Once again, my condolences |
