Just got a new email from Borders. It says the offer is valid in-store and at borders.com! There are promotional codes for the readers.

Be careful there, though... some of their reader/cover packages are listing the reader with the wrong cover... 650 + 350 cover, for example... choose carefully.

Vann's is also offering a free light cover for the in-stock red 650 (red cover) and silver 350 (blue cover). The offer doesn't appear for the on-order black 650 or pink 350.

My local Borders had the 650s in stock with a demo unit floating in the back room ... but no lighted cases. They had a sign displayed announcing the new promotion. The offer says "while supplies last" so they really aren't forced to honor the deal.

Thank you! I have never purchased from ABT previously so I would never would have checked there for the free cover promotion. After waiting all day to see if Newegg would do it for the 650 as well as the silver 350 I ordered this afternoon from ABT. It is backordered 7 to 10 days, but that is okay. The lighted cover is a better deal than I hoped to get on Black Friday so I am good to go.

It has taken 2 1/2 years to find the device that spoke to me and my husband is quite relieved.

B&H also joined in. Hmm, I wonder if this is really Sony's initiative. to boost sales of those bulkier covers a bit.

well if its boosting sales of the sony reader, thats a good thing. Despite its great feature set this reader is perpetually like 1% of the market.

I began reading MR only last week, as I was researching for an ereader for borrowing library books since my K3 does not have that ability. I was put off by the price of the 650, but intrigued by the new eink/touchscreen technology it offered. Two days ago, I happened on this thread describing the Borders promotion and I have to thank MR and the OP for the info. That was an offer I didn't refuse. Thank you!

dammit -- abt sent my cover to the wrong address!!! They sent it to an address i havent used in 6 months, I have no idea where they got it from (my credit card is tied to my new address -- and wouldnt they know to send the cover to the same address they sent the reader to?!?!!?)

I have to call them first thing in the morning. I hate when things like this happen, what a headache. They'll likely not get that cover back (its sitting on the porch of a strangers house right now) and dammit i still want my free cover!

[update: abt was amazingly nice again, offering to send ups to retrieve the package from the wrong address and redirect it back to the right address... so it might take a little longer before i get my package... but hopefully i'll eventually get it...]

My guess is: Thanksgiving. Even better deals after Christmas, on a store by store basis (over ordered and overstocked)
