Even as I write this there's a poor, unsuspecting first-time poster formulating an innocent question that will soon become the copyright/stealing thread du jour. Last edited by ManosHandsOfFate; 10-20-2010 at 06:42 PM. |

There is a certain segment of the populace that will always attempt to get something for nothing. All electronic files can be copied and I don't personally believe that any DRM will be discovered that can prevent this in all cases.

That being said, I also believe that most readers will continue to buy their ebooks, simply because I believe that the majority of readers are fans who tend to support their authors. I do agree with others who have said that the price of ebooks must come down (and retailers cut must shrink accordingly) in order to remain competative with the black market. |

And when they have taken away all the ethnic groups, and the religious, and the Jewish. Who do you think is going to be the ones to stand up and resist? Those who believe in not breaking a rule, ever? Or those who thumb their noses at regulation and oppression.

Oh, puh-leeeese. The dren is getting too deep and smelly to wade through around here. Next we'll be hearing that the pirate movement is being led by the bodiless head of the King of the Moon from astride his mechanical three-headed vulture. I think this thread has officially broken through to the Twilight Zone, next stop: The Cornfield.

I think this is what the media companies really think of as an equivallent to piracy.

![]() Biting my tongue. Guess that'll be seen as not having "a pair" too, but if I said all I'm thinking now, I'd feel disrespectful to the admin and to my parents, who reared me to show some class, and to grow up, not just grow old. It's pretty bad when I feel more sympathetic toward the kids I think are making bad choices than the people who are "instructing" them. But the poster upthread nailed it when he said this is like adults who go all freaky at kids having sex, instead of dealing with it rationally. Hyperbole, sanctimony, snark... gains nothing except backlash as people feel justified in totally blowing you off. ...so much for biting my tongue. Sorry. That offensive challenge just pushed me over the edge.

Though I disagree with the analogy (knowing far too many people whose unintended early pregnancies effectively ruined their adulthoods), how would you want to see them "deal with it rationally"?

I just don't need to be rude, snide and nasty to offer up an opinion. This is unlike some individuals who name call and who to like to jam their opinions down other people throats. So no, I am NOT a coward and I DO NOT need to grow some. |

Piracy is bad. True. But as long there are people who reads more then they can buy, there will be piracy.

I buy 3-4 ebooks every month. $13 Way of the Kings for example covers nearly half of my book budget. I'm living on a scholarship here, I cannot buy anymore (when I finished paying for my nook I guess I will read less pirated books); so I read pirated books too if my uni doesn't have the book in Library. But I don't think people who have enough money should read pirated book. Sorry if that offends you... |
