I've read the first two and really can't see what the hype was about. The first one was a very slow read for me. The second one is much better with a faster pace and focuses more on Lisbeth.
Honestly, the books are good but nothing great. I've read much better books in the same genre. |

I consider the books to fall in the "Crime fiction" category. |

Crime is a broad category. And it is hard to compare books that are good and belongs to different categories. If a book is better if I really get stuck in it and cannot stop reading then Stieg Larson's books are in the top. But if I would look at style and language a lot of crime books have better style and languange but the style and language works at least.
I would say that the first book is a locked room mystery, the second is more a police procedural and the third is more a spy story. |

I just started The Second One. Fun so far! Lisbeth is definitely the draw.

I've read all of these and found them very enjoyable. Definitely more intelligently written than your average bestseller. It's a shame that Larsson is being compared to Dan Brown. Yes, they're both mysteries, and they've sold a ton of copies, but Larsson is MUCH better than Brown.
It's kind of a shame that they're so popular, I think the hype machine makes people much more critical of a book. I don't pay much attention to the bestseller lists, more just try to find books by authors I like, or follow recommendations from folks (that's how I stumbled on Larsson.) I know with movies, the more it's hyped, the more skeptical I've become. I put off seeing "Titanic" and "The Sixth Sense" for years because of all the hype. When I finally got around to seeing them, I thought "meh" of both. I probably would have liked them a lot better if I'd managed to see them without having any preconceived notions. |

i just finished the third book. i read them in order.
all 3 fit my criteria for "very good," meaning that i looked forward to each chance that i had to read some more and that i was also a little disappointed when i came to the end of each one. one of my criteria for a book being "good" is that it has to be within the realm of believability as set by the context of the book. one of the things that i enjoy so much about john grisham's books are their believability, and the thing that i hate about some other authors (coben, i think) is unbelievability that borders on ridiculousness. books #1 and #3 skirted just over the edge of believability at times, while #2 took a big leap, but i nevertheless enjoyed them overall. i didn't see the movie until after reading the book, and found the most enjoyable part of the movie to be the casting. when the lisbeth character was seen for the first time in the movie, she turned to face the audience and i said, "perfect." |

Can anyone here point me to a mobile version of these books in Swedish? I don't want to read them in English.

I'm reading the last one right now, and yes you need to read them in order. Especially book 2 and 3. There's a time gap of two years between book 1 and 2, but between book 2 and 3 there isn't so much as an extra second. Book 3 is just book 2, the next chapter.........
