I did check them out and they do look good. However, having the Irex folks crash just after I bought my 800, I'm leery about these "non brand" electronics. I'll keep an eye on them, though.

Believe me, Pocketbook support and customer service is not a problem. I used to have a Sony, and got fed up with their lack of support. Pocketbook, however, has answered my questions in less than a day. I also managed to break my screen, and they replaced it and returned it back to me in less than a week (at cost).

And I'm much happier with the reader itself than the Sony brand. Pocketbook puts out a quality product.

Thanks, Irex was the same - good quality, quick answers - especially since one of their developers is on MobleRead. Nevertheless, they went out of business. Before I purchase another expensive ereader, I'm going to make sure (as much as possible) that the business is solid. I may end up with Pocketbook, but I hope my Irex lasts at least another year so I can see what is then being offered in the market.

i'm a very fast reader, and i like the screen on a 6" reader, but 5" isn't bad - really. it took me only a few minutes to develop a page turning rhythm the first time i used my cybook. my son reads entire novels on his ipod touch, and so do a lot of people here. the screens are bigger than you might expect unless you need the font size large.

So far I realized by the answer that:
• Those with a 6” screen find it perfect.
• Those with a 9” screen find it perfect.
The way I see it there are three main disadvantages with 9” screen e-readers:
Cost; Size; Not many to choose from.
I know only one e-reader with a screen larger than 6”. The kindle DX.
Size may not be a problem to me because I do not intend to carry in public transport. I work near home.
Kindle DX as a cost disadvantage, regarding other e-readers.
I am just afraid of buying a 6” screen and then regret it because its reading is not comfortable.
On the other hand I cannot afford to spend unnecessary extra money

There are other 9" screens. Sony has one and Pocketbook is putting one out.

The nice thing about the Kindle DXG is that you can try it out for 30 days. If you find it to big or heavy you can return it to Amazon at no cost to you. The same goes for the K3. Amazon's return policy should make it easy for someone to figure out what they are most comfortable with.

1- Where are you reading? At home? Many different locations?
2- What are you reading? A lot of people think PDFs are real ebooks; they're not but if you need to display them a lot the screen size *will* matter. Especially for technical documents.
3- How's your eyesight? ;-) The smaller readers tend to have higher resolution than the bigger ones (200dpi at 5in, 167dpi at 6in, ~150dpi at 9+ in).

Once you settle on your needs, then you need to look for matches; some readers don't offer up terribly large maximum font sizes, which may be an issue if you're looking for a large-text reader. PDF display ranges from unreadable to tolerable on most smaller readers. Customizability is also likely to be an issue as are ergonomics; you need to consider how you're likely to handle the thing.

Above all, think about your specific *reading* needs/preferences; the reason different people are happy with different brands and models is because everybody has different needs and weigh those needs differently. It's not about the gadget; it's really all about you and your reading.

From my point of view, buying an ereader is a compromise between being able to read the text without zooming (so you get a reasonable amount of text per page) and being able to hold the damn thing without breaking your wrist. So for me the six inch screen is the largest I can hold more or less comfortably. I have an Iriver, which may be a little heavier than others, but not, I think, significantly so.

Your eyesight might be a consideration. Fortunately, despite my age, I have good near vision, so I read on the Iriver's smallest setting and get a reasonable amount of text per page. But if you get a 9 inch screen, I think you're going to find that you find yourself perpetually looking for somewhere to rest your book, and reading at a table all the time. Lying back in a sofa or in bed with the book in the air is not going to be an option.

I read mostly at home. I read mainly fiction (especially fantasy), but also “semi-technical” books, like the YOU Series.
Actually I have mostly PDF’s. Some of them I manage to convert in a different format. Other´s with pictures (like for dummies series) I don’t.
So I was thinking about DX. But, I have to admit, I had never thought about wrist stress.

They seen interesting but I found no notices about sales. Does this mean they won’t be on sale?

Skiff seems to be dead.
Asus might be focusing on Android tablets, but nothing seems to be clear. Impressive demo units, though.

Sony has a 9" reader? Only know of Sony 950. 7" if I remember correctly.

I use my e-reader mainly to read technical books and most of the times I do it at home. Currently I own a 6'' device and I have no serious problem with it but if I could go back I would prefer a bigger screen.

Anyway I agree with who wrote that the right choice depends on your needs.
