I read for comprehension, not speed...

Some books describe the same scenario through different POVs, and I do go over them rather quickly, but don't skip them, as there might be something new...

I don't know about one page speed, but generally it takes me 3-4 weeks to read an equivalent of a thick, 900 pages hardback edition book. Unfortunately

Well I suppose that's true, but isn't it a bit like saying that you want to get sex over as quickly as possible so you can do it again?

You compare apples and oranges.

I guess you assume that if you read a book very fast you do not enjoy it as much as if you read it slowly, savouring the details and memorising it better. Ask speed readers. Many of them, remember as much or even more than slow readers. I visit a few book forums. Some people read a book every 2-3 days, sometimes in one day and they can write detailed and comprehensive reviews.
I just accept it as a fact and envy them, but that's life. Some people are smarter, some are healthier, some are wealthier etc.

I used to think of myself as a quick reader, but I think that was mostly because of the amount of time I spent reading in a day. I don't know how many words per minute I read. I do know that when I get too excited about a book, I can involuntarily skip sentences or short paragraphs in my haste. Sometimes I realize this and go back, but I suppose sometimes I don't. I guess I would be better off reading more slowly but really reading what I read. If you see what I mean

Absolutely ! I think that's why I get the impression that I'm such a slow reader: I can only read 2 to 3 hours a day because of my work. When I was still at university I could spend the whole day reading. I remember reading the Dark Tower Trilogy in about three weeks. If I had to read one of the Dark Tower books now it would take me a week at least.

Ok, here is what I have been told by google.com:

This is really a bi-modal distribution (if you chart all of the reading speeds for everyone in the world who reads the chart will peak twice, referred to as a bi-modal distribution) there are some people who never read in their lives (most frequently in third world countries but alas this ocurrs quite often in the US and Europe) and there are those that can go through a 300 page book (considered to be the average length of a book by the US book publishing industry) in a week. Myself I tend to be in the 80 percentile (faster than 80% of the population) if I read one at a time or in the 40 percentile if more that one (day one its one book and day two its the other).

I read this entire post in 0.1 sec. My father was a Vulcan and my mother belonged to Mensa. Superior intellect can lead to great reading speed, but I find, like Albert Einstein, that my thoughts turn to more carnal pleasures. Now we need a survey on how many orgasms a human being can achieve in an hour. My OPH score is 180. Thanks, in some part, to my wife. Yes, dear.

But I do wonder if Vulcans can take any pleasure from orgasms. How would a race that suppresses emotions experience such intense feelings ? Curious race, these Vulcans ... Nice to have one among us. Live long and prosper

Sex? At my age, the only action I get is when the prunes kick in.
