Well, mine were! After less than a month of use my home key was starting to fade as well as the bottom arrow. I was so upset and was prepared to return and find another reader. I can't afford the 3G one that offers the white color. I have read that the keys rubbing off hasn't been an issue with the white.
I called Amazon and they (of course) know about the problem and have since changed the inks used to put the characters on the key pad. So they're sending me a new one via upgraded 1 day shipping! (no cost to me) I then have an additional 30 days to send my original back. I thought I'd let everyone know. If you have one of the graphite color ones from closer to the release date of the K3, even if there is no keys fading, you might want to call customer service and try for one of the newer ones and let them know your concern. You might have the issue in the near future and it might be too late to return. Maybe call and somehow find out when they started sending off the ones with the new ink on the keys to figure out if yours is one of the new or old ones. |

You might want to contact Amazon. It'll only get worse as well as quite frustrating. They even have a contact button where you put in your phone number and they'll call you. My wait after the call was made was less than a minute.

Nope, despite looking very closely I don't see any signs of fading. My Kindle is well past the 30-days return anyway.

I'm fairly sure this would fall under the one-year warranty and not the 30-day return, as it's a manufacturing defect.

You're supposed to keep kindle in zip lock bag or only use it with latex gloves. Otherwise the paint on the keys will rub off over time.
anyways people post this problem like 10 times a week, its going to happen on your new model and the one after that and the one after that and the one after that. In time. |

my 5 way arrows wore a bit on the first week, but not gotten any worse in the weeks after that and the rest seem fine. I am aware of the defect but am willing to wait till they fade to a point that it can't be used as it has the year warranty anyway. I would rather exchange much later on when the replacements have the newer keys. For now mine hasn't gotten any worse than it did in the first week.......seems okay now.

Sigh.. mabye if someone finds a spray like this
http://www.amazon.com/VHT-SP515-Quic...sr=1-3-catcorr that works on plastics you will soon find "users that bought this also purchased" kindle dx + amazon cover + acrylic spray thought taking the thing apart to spray the keys would be a hassle. |
