I used to fence just for fun, and yes I did take lessons. A good friend and I used to go into the woods to practice on uneven ground. If you've ever seen the scene in The Princess Bride where they are fencing on, and around, large rocks you can get an idea of the fun we had.

Longswords, of the Florence variety. We usually practice with longswords and one-hand-and-a-half swords (I think they're known as "bastard swords" in the UK), plus stripe-and-buckler and sometimes maces too. We train on claymores too, but not when staging for the public, and as Lady Fitzgerald said yes, those fuckers are HUGE, "taller than a tall man" as old books say. Of course, it' all staged, not real fights, but it is a great stress reliever anyway |

I eat (which I'm trying to break that habit with Weight Watchers), I read, and I shop, but online. eBay is stress relief for me - it's a researcher's toy - tons of fun stuff, most of which I window shop. And then the adrenaline thrill of winning in the final seconds. My weak points are gadgets and leather purses. Luckily I sell what I don't use, so I can afford my stress relief. |

Amen! I understand the argument that outsourcing provides the same service for less money. But those phone centers staffed by people you can't understand (or in the case of my phone company, don't understand me) alienate the customers for the sake of saving a few dollars.

Now that looks fun! I used to fence (sport-fencing, foil), but dodgy ankles, being built more like a cob than a thoroughbred and a complete inability to take it seriously stopped me

Maybe we could combine the two - go after the folk on the other end of the phone call and use swords on them!

I feel so much better already! Just viewing my mental image of bursting into an offshore phone center brandishing broadswords!

I can provide replicas for anyone who doesn't have a sword. They're dull at the moment, but the steel will take and hold an edge |
