Perhaps if I hadn't constantly had the feeling that I read it before (because I certainly come across some of these pieces in the Grantville Gazette) I would have enjoyed it more. So-so. Next up: The Sorceress of Karres by Eric Flint and Dave Freer. This is the second continuation of James H Schmitz's book, "The Witches of Karres". The previous one was fun, and it looks like this one is fun too. |

I just finished reading "This Body of Death," the newest Elizabeth George book. It's got a story within a story, and I could hardly put it down when I got near the end. The style in this one is closer to the style in some of the earlier Inspector Lynley books, I think. Highly recommended if you're a fan of Lynley and Havers and the team, because they are all back in this book.

I started reading Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey, an Amazon freebie, on my iPod. Very enjoyable read, though it could have done with more proof-reading and editing.

I downloaded that from Sony (also free).... I'm pleased about the first part of your assessment and bummed about the second. I wish more people would just proof their books! Well, actually, I wish more people would have someone else proof their books!

I just started reading both "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" and "The Lost Hero". I am also reading so many books for school that my head is spinning.

Started the 13th or 14th book, depending on your point of view, in the Repairman Jack series by F. Paul Wilson. This one is called Fatal Error. I really love a long series of books like this. Next Tuesday, the next installment to the Jack Reacher series comes out, too. How cool is that? And... a new collection of short stories by Stephen King comes out November 9th. Right now, life is pretty good! I don't think I'll have any trouble filling the time until the price of the Follett book comes down.

I should be finishing up all these half (more or less) finished books on my Kindle, but no...
I've been eating up "The Complete Hammer's Slammers Volume 1" by David Drake and quite enjoying it, to my surprise. Didn't think I was much into Military SF, but these are well written and as a Viet Nam vet, he brings heartfelt realism to the stories. |

I'm reading Black Out by John Lawton. English detective Freddie Troy investigates murders in wartime London during the Blitz and mixes it up with Yanks stationed there. Good stuff, but it took a while to get up and running. Longtime UK resident Lawton gets the Yanks right as only an American writer probably could, though sometimes it's a little over the top -- which I like.
But, I have a confession to make ... I'm reading this as a print book! The horror. But only because it's not available in the US as an ebook. ![]() I feel better now, having confessed. |

I just finished reading a book by Madeleine Wickham (aka Sophie Kinsella) called The Wedding Girl. I've read most of the books under the Kinsella name and feel the non-Shopaholic one's were best (especially The Undomestic Goddess) but this one was the first of the Wickham books I've ever read and I was blown away by it. Although the plot was a bit shallow, the character development was outstanding. I'm looking forward to latching onto and reading other Wickham books.
I'm also working on Blow Me Down by Katie MacAlister on my JBL when away from the house and, at home (I read on my TV instead of my JBL when at home) I just started on From Wedded Wife to Lesbian Wife, an anthology edited by Deborah Abbott. I spotted this book (as I did the Wickham book) on a bargain table and latched onto it as possibly being interesting. I've barely started it and one quote at the start of a chapter was attributed to someone who shares the name of a lass I used to sing with in a local chorale. Since the name is fairly unusual, it must be the lass I knew. The one I know I knew was a muscian with a band and has written some music but I didn't know she was a writer. I'll probably see her in December at a concert (she still sings in the chorale) so I will clear up that mystery then. Last edited by Lady Fitzgerald; 10-17-2010 at 10:38 PM. |
