The 950 is $299, but I don't think I'd be willing to pay it just for the new screen, nor do I need (limited) wireless surfing and Sony buying.

Finally got to see the PRS-650 at the Borders in Waikele, HI and I have to say I am impressed! Screen is much better than I expected and the navigation was very intuitive. The only colors Borders is selling in the stores are black (650) and silver (350).

I also posted a note under News about the Borders promotion starting tomorrow, Sunday, 17 October and running through the week: Buy a Sony Reader and get the matching lighted case for free!

Got mine on hold for tomorrow.

There is no place in my area with a Sony display of the new models. Best Buy had the three old models, but took them down Friday morning, and don't know if they will be getting display models. They only had 4 350s for sale, and you couldn't look at them, other than the box.

Sad part is, their two nooks on display and the Kindle all had dead batteries. And there were no Kindles for sale, just the display. I told them they needed help with their reader displays before the holiday rush, because the market is exploding and they are losing out.

They also couldn't tell me if they were EVER going to get the 650s in.

The point is I paid $399 for the 900 last December. That's an expensive paperweight. I could not pass up the free lighted cover with the 650 at Borders so I picked one up today. the contrast improvement over the 900 is significant.

$399 for what? The 350 and 650 are $179.99 and $229.99 respectively, and the 950 will be only $299.99.

He paid $399 a year ago for the 900, so if he bought a 950 for $299 now, that's the $399 lost (or rather a very expensive year's use).

Hey everybody, I'll be flying to London this weekend and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there's a store I could go to to see the new readers in person. Cheers!

I stopped by Best Buy and Borders yesterday in Buford, Georgia, and was shocked and disappointed. Both stores had the Sony readers (and others) on display, but neither of the stores had the current models. They were still showing the 300, 600, and 900 as current, and the displays were in shambles.

Why doesn't Sony care about the horrid displays with old, beaten up products?

EDIT: It appears that the Borders in Snellville has one, and it now has my name on it.

Try Waterstones or Sony's own store...

I just got my 650 today!!!! Playing with it now, but first glance its GORGEOUS! Haven't done a side by side with my 505, but I swear the 650 looks crisper.

Would have had it Saturday, but FedEx comes a heckuva lot earlier than I thought (10am... I passed the delivery two streets from my house coming back from the grocery... soooo disappointed when i saw the "we missed you" note on the door)

Thankfully our local waterstones had a few on display (and working). 350, 650, 300 and one other - makes choosing so much easier.

I was very surprised by the difference between the 350 and the 650; maybe its my imagination, but the 650 seemed to have less contrast?

Regardless of that, both looked good, and I'm so happy that I've got the 350. All my old paperbacks are being shunted up into the loft

Seems to be a lot of interest - we've now got Waterstones, WH Smith and Tesco (the leviathan of UK consumer products) doing eBook stores. Local library is doing an eBook lending service. All good!

I love my 900 and wanted to go for the 950.
But for me they've killed it by replacing the phantastic "integrated" cover by the standard one we know of Sony 600 and others.

How so? He can sell the 900 and get part of that $399 back. Most people trade in their electronics in a year or two anyway. I've never heard anyone say about the car they just traded in, wow that was an expensive two year auto! It is all part of the upgrade process. And in no way would I consider $399 lost. He used it for a year, that has to have had some value in and of itself!
