Personally I would add a qualifier such as "unbridled", "unrestrained", or "de-regulated" to the C-word, but this is still food for thought:
.....What is surprising — and disappointing — is how easily manipulated the Tea Party movement has been, and how willing its followers seem to be to have their rage channeled against the chosen targets of self-interested and opportunistic leaders. .....Socialism. Deficit spending. Healthcare reform. Barack Obama. .....The current plight of the middle class had been unfolding — and accelerating — for four decades, and this is the best Dick Armey and Sarah Palin and Glen Beck can come up with? And the millions of people embracing the Tea Party creed are willing to accept such blatantly shallow explanations for their plight? .....The truth is that the plight of the middle class is a product of the triumph of capitalism, and is the direct product of deliberate national policies that have reflected the consensus of the American political and corporate establishment. ..........— David Paul, author, president of the Fiscal Strategies Group. "Tea Party Movement Obsession With Socialism Misses the Cause of Middle Class Plight," Huffington Post, October 10, 2010. Last edited by WT Sharpe; 10-13-2010 at 12:02 PM. |

Englishmen
The English are, for the most part, both men and women of all ages, handsome and well-proportioned; though not quite so much so, in my opinion, as it had been asserted to me, before your Magnificence went to that kingdom; and I have understood from persons acquainted with these countries, that the Scotch are much handsomer; and that the English are great lovers of themselves, and of everything belonging to them; they think that there are no other men than themselves, and no other world but England; and whenever they see a handsome foreigner, they say that "he looks like an Englishman", and that "it is a great pity that he should not be an Englishmen"; and when they partake of any delicacy with a foreigner, they ask him, "whether such a thing is made in their country?".
-- A Relation or Rather a True Account of the Island of England; with Sundry Particulars of the Customs of These People and of the Royal Revenues Under King Henry the Seventh, About the Year 1500. Translated by Charlotte Augusta Sneyd (1847). Last edited by Falcao; 10-15-2010 at 09:07 PM. Reason: Corrections |

I read in some paper, years ago, that hell was meticulously shaped with eyes occupied in looking. The phrase, then, was neither from Borges nor from Sábato nor from Sartre not mine. As for me, for years I learned the art of shaving by tact, to avoid the opinion of the mirror, to come to work without the weight of another depression. It is that my image - you show that to me - advances, since time ago, separated from me. While I remain a teenager, calm, interested in my business, kind and humble by indifference and by the amazing security that there are no answers, it, my face, has aged, has become bitter, and maybe it is counting or inventing histories that are not mine but from it.

You must be like the man who planned to live forever. When told it was impossible, he simply replied, "Well, so far it's working."

from “The Matrix”
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions. [Agent Brown] I see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. [Morpheus] I'm trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it. [Morpheus] Neo: Why do my eyes hurt? Morpheus: You've never used them before. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 07-22-2012 at 06:08 PM. |
