La Ninas here mean warm and dry. So I have a lot of drive salt because that means an inch of ice instead of a foot of snow. Otherwise, I live in walking distance of work, a grocery, the bank, and a funeral home. I'm set.

For years, I've kept a package of those "glow bracelets" in my suitcase as travel nightlights. I usually hang them on on the doorknobs of hotel rooms, and when I travel with my (elderly) mother, I even lay them along edges of furniture so she can see the layout of the room in the dark. They work pretty well at home, too, during power outages. You can't see to read, but you can get around if you put them in strategic places. Here in the U.S. this is a good time of year to stock up on them, because Halloween is approaching. In our local Target store I saw them yesterday in a package of 15 for a dollar. |

Within a four block walk of where I live are six churches, two funeral homes, a medical center, and any number of physician offices. We call it "Death Row." And if my plowing guy tears up my bushes one more time, I will need some place to dispose of the body. |
