I needed a new purse recently, and wanted to go down in size, but had to make sure my 300 fit. I literally carried my 300 and put it into all kinds of purses, just to make sure it was big enough to close around my reader. People looked at me like I was crazy.

But I now have my reader with me at all times. LOL

Yuck. Hopefully there was just a mistake somewhere in the process and the wrong file was uploaded. I hope you get a new one.

Understand about typos and that sort of thing, but if it really wasn't all there, it, could be a corrupted file/packaging etc.

I once forgot to take it with me on the subway But luckily I still had my iPod Touch with daily news and a few podcasts I never listen to, so I didn't spend 1 1/2 hours staring at nothing

Either way, a proofing pass would have caught the problems... at the very least, it would have revealed the MISSING ENDING... and it should have been corrected, or pulled.

BTW: I have received a refund from B&N for the book, but complaints to Harper Collins have resulted in the usual cricket-chirping silence...

The problem is how you discourage them from keeping you warm at night.

A former co-worker described his experiences when you got a yellow Labrador Retriever. He got the dog a dog bed, and put it next to his bed, but the dog wanted to sleep in bed with him.

So for nights running, he'd go to bed, start to fall asleep, and have to get up a move the dog off his bed into the dog bed.

One night, he was in the process of falling asleep when he heard noises and felt vibrations. He awoke to discover the dog laboriously dragging the dog bed up onto the bed beside him. "You want me to sleep on this? Okay, I'll sleep on this. But I'm gonna do it up here with you!"

Proofing pass? What is this "proofing pass" of which you speak?

Proofing, alas, is one of those things that increasingly isn't done in attempts to cut costs. A friend used to be VP at an editorial production hose that provided such services to customers, and lamented on a list we were both on about how much is wasn't being done these days. Another list member, who was an editor at a major house, said "But such things are part of the basic budget for the book, and are always done!" "Maybe in your house,", was the reply, "but I'm the one who gets to deal with clients who used to pay us to do it and don't anymore!"

but what I was trying to say is that the missing ending may be a result of transmission errors or a particular vendors copy of the book resulting in a corrupted datafile either on your side or in the database of the vendor/supplier. That certainly might only exhibit itself on your end.

Glad you got the refund!

If the data file is corrupted, will you even be able to open it? I haven't played a lot with ePub files here, but I suspect the viewer software might barf on a corrupt file, and at least generate a warning, even if it does open it.

I don't know about ePub, but I do know that I have read one mobi book happily, up to the place where it restarted my reader, again and again and again. I never got to read the ending. No big loss in this case though.
