"copy file hack" possible?

I have found that if I only use internal memory without external memory card inserted, my 500 is much more responsive, especially for bookmarking and menu navigation.

Since we already have the "delete book hack", accessing to the file system of internal/external memory is possible. Is it feasible to create a "copy file hack" to copy file between internal and external memory? We can make it using similar control as "delete book hack": press "SIZE" to start copy and press "MARK" to confirm.

Also, a hack to display available space for internal memory would also be very useful in addition to the copy file hack.

Update: I have implemented it myself. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14855

Gosh, I don't know why I didn't realize this, but the other day I was listening to music while reading a book and noticed that the volume-level icon does show up when music is playing, but goes away when music is paused.

So, it appears there is a music-playing status icon after all. User proceeds to hit hand against fore-head.

No news on play/pause?

Thanks,
F.

Sorry, no luck on play/pause. I'm still not sure how to access those functions when in a book.

Updated copy book hack

Nogg:

Please update Hack Builder with the new version copy book hack when you get a chance.

Improvements:
1. If destination memory is full and copying fails, the partially copied file is deleted automatically. No longer requires manual removal.
2. Display copying and refreshing messages and status.
3. Hack comment is more detailed.

It has been fully tested.

Thanks.

Original Settings?

Hello!

Would it be a good idea to add the point "Delete all hacks - original setting" to Hack Builder?

I think it would be a very comfortable way to make it like "out of the box" again.

Thanks for your answers

A better way to make it the same as "out of the box" is re-flashing the latest firmware using USB cable. From a technical standpoint, I don't think the Hack Builder can get you back to 100% of the original state because some hacks write files into the internal memory and the HB won't remove them. Of cource from a user standpoint you can't tell the difference.

If you select the Default Config option, that will revert you to "factory" settings.

Mdhuang is right, though, that "factory" means that it operates like an unhacked device, but there still are some differences in the files that are used as markers for the hack locations. Functionally it makes no difference, but the files themselves won't be identical to a fresh firmware installation.

Nogg,
I have a Mac and had to reboot into Windows to try the Hackbuilder, but it would not run -- does it require a .NET or something? I have a virgin XP install there and was getting errors "program could not be ran and was terminated".

Add Russian support to hack builder?

WOuld it be possible to add support for Russian language (Cyrillic) in hackbuilder? That would be *awesome*! There are links to files and instructions (in Russian, alas) in the forum at http://www.the-ebook.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=23

If you or someone else familiar with Russian could grab all of the appropriate files for me from the site, I can probably figure out how to plug them into HackBuilder.

Try rebooting the Reader (using the reset button).
