Just finished "Shadow Command" by Dale Brown. Paints a very interesting picture of future weapon tech and looks as space as a warfare staging ground. It was especially captivating since the book focuses on a US space plane, similar to the US Air Foce X-37B space plane which has gone "missing" (landed/changed orbit) in recent weeks.

Anyone else kind of overwhelmed with the number of books there are out there? So many good books, it's almost paralyzing to think about which one to read.

Absolutely!

what makes things worse.......there are so many good books that have already been read years ago......but need to be read again. Now.

Just started "The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel and I have the feeling that I will love that book!

So true! But what I hate is when you start an interesting-looking book and then realize it's sounding familiar and then you realize you read it, not that long ago, and you didn't really enjoy it much the first time! Now that bites.

Now onto One Good Soldier by Travis S. Taylor. Third book in of his "Tau Ceti" series that started with One Day on Mars.

The previous two were action-packed with fun science speculation. It looks like the third is in similar vein.

No kidding! That's why I'm going to the trouble of chopping and scanning my books collection so I won't have to give it up when I move to smaller digs. One of the joys of retirement is I am now able to start doing some of that rereading (when I can find time between scanning books and reading new work coming out

).

I loved Life of Pi. You'd better make sure you find somebody else who has already read it, because you are going to want to discuss it when you're done!

I always find it mentally challenging to choose which book to read next. If I'm in a series I just skip ahead to the next book in line. If not I have bigger problems to pick.

Which is exactly why I started using LibraryThing to keep track of the books I read. Some use GoodReads which is a similar service but 100% free. I paid the lifetime LibraryThing membership which I think was like $25.

I am a member at both Librarything (there is a completely free membership) and Goodreads. They are both pretty good tools; adding books is easy, rating them is easy and taking notes (or reviewing if you want--that came be kept private at least on LibraryThing; not sure about Goodreads.)

I think so far I tend to spend more time on Goodreads. Possibly because of some of the social aspects. I know a few more people on goodreads.
