Nope, no worries, my clients know that the issue for month X goes out toward mid-month, so whilst September's went before this discussion, October's shan't go out until the 15th or so...so that's perfect. Thanks.

My authors are ALWAYS looking for places to list and promote their books. This should work nicely.

Ah, I see! Republish the book, in other words. But if it has the same title and the same cover, will Amazon be fooled? Or is it enough to call it Edition 3?

The latter, I think, but check Amazon's fine print. I don't sell ebooks through Amazon, and am not current on the details.

Thanks, Doreen! Doranna and I have both been putting a lot of time into this the past few weeks, and it's nice to get positive feedback!

My last RWA conference was years ago! I might lurk around at next year's in NYC, so if you're there, say hi!

Aaaaaand *drumroll* we now have an interim web site for Backlist Ebooks that is *not* FaceBook.

http://backlistebooks.com

The site mirrors the FaceBook information/presentation, although of course is sans the wall posts (which may be considered a feature by some. ;> ) I'll be updating it each time I update the FaceBook page, so it'll always be just as timely.

We hope you find it useful!

It should if I can get a sample in ePub.

Until you do have a reader, use Adobe Digital Editions to check out your ePub eBooks and Mobipocket Reader to check out Mobipocket eBooks. That would work best that way as they are the standard programs to use for ePub and Mobipocket.

They also say that they recently upgraded the "Meatgrinder," so maybe that's part of it, too.

But the ability to easily upload corrections and tweaks on SW is something I haven't seen in other systems. Kindle store isn't bad, but SW is better.
yes, I know. I worked on the first one to get it out in LRF. I've seen the nice hand crafted ePub with the nice embedded font(s) and is the SW version as good?

Just got back from the Novelists, Inc. conference in St. Pete. This is an organization of multipublished novelists who write mostly popular fiction. E-publishing (and specifically author-published backlist) was a HUGE topic of conversation, and the #1 workshop subject. I was spontaneously invited to join a panel of ventures similar to (but not quite the same as) Backlist Ebooks, and there was a lot of interest from the attendees. A very exciting conference--and an indication that readers are going to be seeing many more out-of-print ebooks hitting the virtual stands in the near future!

Great news, Patricia. I would strongly encourage authors in your position to just make sure they don't re-invent the wheel. We don't need two dozen authors each starting up different ventures right now---I think authors would be better served by congregating together in one or two places and having strength in numbers. I think customers need a very clear destination where they can go to get many books. That will popularize and legitimize the venture and draw in new readers, I think. I am glad so many authors are enthusiastic about getting their books out there, I would just hate to see the customers tune out because they can't keep up with dozens of websites.

Sorry, I missed this a week ago. The SW conversion is not as good as hand-crafted, customized jobs, and probably never will be. It isn't going to allow for things like embedded pretty fonts, I don't think. But the output I got was clean, glitch-free, and properly spaced as far as I could tell with spot checking. I was happy with it.

(BTW, you didn't just work on the first book, you did all three in LRF for me, as I recall.)

Yes, I did. My mistake for forgetting that.

But I do like the hand crafted ePub of book one better then the LRF I did. But then back then, there was a need for the LRF.

You will enjoy your reading experience with a good reader. But if you can, before you get a nook, go also check out the Sony PRS-650 and see which one you like best. Then buy the one you want.
