I've got it! With all of the computing power available to me (the lights in Houston dimmed for several hours), I was able to completely decipher and translate that strange alien message from 1964. But it turns out that some guy in Jamaica had done it back in '65 all by himself. He tried to tell us the message but I'm not sure many of us listened.

Just discovered her today on a Jazz radio station - very unique voice.

Early stuff is quite bluesy/jazzy, later stuff includes covers of Nina Simone catalog.

Know what I hate about one of our local PBS stations that sometimes plays serious jazz? They always do it in sets that are typically 1/2 hour long and don't announce the artist and song title until the end of the set. Being as most of the time I'm on the road when I'm listening to that station, the end result is that usually I'm not in the vehicle by the time the announcements are made, and even when I am, half the time I've joined in mid-set and have no idea as to what's what. I hear a lot of great music that I would buy if only I knew what I was listening to. Why can't DJs announce the title and artist at the beginning and end of each song? Or is it a case of if you have to ask, you ain't hip enough to know?

I'm in total agreement with you. I heard a song by her driving in this morning, and managed to memorize the album name it was from. As you can see by her name, I didn't have a ghost of a chance figuring out how to spell it. I thought the announcer said "Lee Ann Beeko".

I was told to help prevent listeners from recording the song off the radio.

It's also why the DJ talks into the song's beginning.
