Growing up on the farm we would shoot the rats with a .22 ... sometimes with the "shot" type -- like a shotgun shell with small pellets.... dad called those bullets "rat shot"

We have a good crop of spiders in the garden at the moment. (It does look almost like a crop too - all their webs are lined up down one side of the garden, at almost the same distance from each other). However, the largest is possibly only 30mm long max!

(That spider on the box is scaring me, and it's only a pic from the other side of the world!)

I don't think it is a bitey spider. Keep him in the house to keep the roaches down. As long as they don't make webs, I don't mind spiders too much.
Webs make me itchy if I touch them.

I'm thinking it would be more useful keeping mice and the like down! Or possibly train to walk on a lead...

I think it would be more offputting than the signs which are popular around here - a picture of a Doberman with "I can make it to the fence in 2.8 seconds - can you?" (One house I go past has one up - you'd actually have to be paralysed to not make it to the fence in under that time, as the door with the sign on is practically on the pavement!)

I'll bet the fact that it's not a "bitey spider" is small consolation to those with arachnophobia!

(I like spiders, but even I might be a little jumpy with that thing running around in my pantry!)

I went backpacking for years along the Appalachian Trail without ever seeing a snake. The only time I was able to convince a girlfriend to go camping with me, SHE saw a copperhead on our first day in the mountains. No way was I going to tell her what it was. "That's just a harmless bush snake. Nothing to worry about".

Snakes don't bother me, but the scariest thing I ever saw was a Black Widow by my house down south.
