After searching a bunch of reviews, I decided to give the 350 a try...it's not convenient for me to view them in person at the moment, so I ordered one. Will report back on how it works for the visually impaired.

as for portability, the 350 wins outright, it is so tiny, the 650 is easy to pop in a bag, but the 350 is amazingly portable, you can't really appreciate it till you hold one and compare the 650/600/505.

I guess I have to take a look at the 350 in person to see if my old, cataract-ridden eyes can read it at a decent font size. I usually read on my 505 at Large, which might not give me enough words-per-page on the 350.
I thought I'd report back that after a couple of days with the 350, I find I can read most books in the Medium font size (I had to use Large on the 505). The 350 screen is much better in terms of readability for me.

Yes, I think the 350 is a significant improvement over the 300. If I were trying to choose between buying a 300 or a 350 today, I would not consider a 300 at any price over $80 US. Right now, they seem to be selling for around $130 US (I've never seen them lower than $99 - and that's still too high IMO) and the 350 is selling at list price for around $180. That extra $50 buys a LOT of improvements IMO. Sony needs to be selling the 300 for less than $80 to make it worth while .

I have a 350 myself since portability is very important, but i have to admit it was a tough choice at the shop!! 650 is fairly light and size-wise is actually pretty close to my previous 5" reader (Astak).
But 350 is truly tiny. The size in the cover (Sony cover) is 11x15cm.

650 also comes in a gorgeous deep red color.. i didnt like the pink of 350, so got silver, which is a tad boring.
So if the color is important to you, thats something else to consider!

Right now, I have a 650 and a 350 in the house. The 650 is mine and the 350 is going to my Mother in Law. The 650 fits in my purse, but I really do like the size of the 350--not sure if I had to do it all over again which one I would pick. I think you really do have to see the 350 to appreciate its size.

This is a bit unrelated to this post, but it's a simple question so opening a new thread would be useless.
Does the PRS350 come with ANY kind of screen protection? How scratch proof are ereaders?

You don't really need anything, as you can use your fingers and the supplied stylus has a blunt rounded tip.

Moreover, one of the video reviews points out that these units' screens are more recessed than others.

yeah but the e-ink screen is the most delicate part of a reader, as well as the most expensive to repair, so its highly recommended to get a hard(ish)cover.

the screen surface is pretty durable, my 600 was touchscreen and doesn't have a mark on it after a year of use. The only thing you need is a decent case to protect the screen while not in use.

The 6" screen is too small for most PDF as most PDF are letter sized.

But that said, go with the 650 as the 6" screen is much nicer then the 5" screen.

great post - made me join up.
I was leaning towards the 650 because I want to read and annotate PDFs but now after reading the posts it seems clear now the 650 is not much good for PDFs, so am undecided on the 350 as just a book reader. The size difference is noticeable in the flesh and the DPI difference is obvious to my eye (better on the 350) - tho I didnt know what is was at the time in the bookstore as the published specs are identical. The 650 seem better tho cause you get a fuller page of text. Another site review thought there needed to be a font size between S and M on the 350.
Will have to go back and compare. 350 for dpi and portability. 650 for page size.
oh? for PDFs will have to consider an iPad or similar - will justify it by web browsing

That's pretty much what I do: iPad for scanned PDFs or those with a large tables and images and the 650 for novels (with reflow the 650 is fine for PDFs that are mostly text with small embedded objects too).

I was glad I made the move from the 5" 300 to the 6" 650 : the larger page size is great for being able to scan ahead, and the 650 is portable enough for my needs. The 350s are cute though

Yes I agree with the review, the S font can sometimes be too small, while the M font can be too big, there needs to be something inbetween.

It's a bit like the Bear's porridge in Goldielocks.
