Question Inexpensive K3 Cover Options - Make it?

Hi all! My sister & I (both Kindle owners) bought my Mom a Kindle for her birthday and now I want to figure out an inexpensive way to protect it. After looking at what was available on Amazon, I am thinking about making one. Would like to hear from other's who have solved this problem. What did you do and how did you do it?

I've not tried making a cover but diokdin recently posted about getting a cover and several other accessories for $15 at Amazon.

If you would still like to go the handmade route, meem has a post with a million links on handmade covers.

Good luck!

Wish I had known about these threads before I made mine.

What I did was buy an A5 planner (I don't know if B5 would fit, but the only suitable size around here is the A5, which was a bit big). It was one of those planners where you can remove the pages inside since it's just tucked into the back cover. I specifically looked for something which is soft, but has some sort of hard board on these inside so that it protects against the screen from accidental jabs.

Then I fixed my K3 to the back using the adhesive tapes from the 3M hooks (since they promise not to destroy the wall when you take them off ;D)

And finally I put a pair of velcro buttons so that the cover doesn't keep on opening when I don't want it to.

It's pretty fun actually, and I'm planning on painting some sort of design on the cover (using nail polish, haha). The only downside is that they don't sell the tape and the velcro buttons individually. Don't know when I'm every going to using the rest of it...

All up it cost about AU$25 with a 2011 planner, 16 tapes and 20 hooks, and 11 pairs of velcro buttons left over.

Hmmm, mine is a sleeve, not a cover. But a 6x9" bubble wrap mailer covered with duct tape has worked quite well so far...

If you really want to go on the cheap, find a EVA PDA/GPS/NETBOOK sleeve that has similar dimensions to the K3, shoudl be around 5-10$, or you can just get one that is designed for the k3. Beware, alot of people will mislabel netbook and other device cases for k3.
EX: k3 is 7.5" x 4.8" x 0.335"
The k2 is little bigger than the k3, so k2 sleeves should fit just fine.

I would recommend something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ard-case-black

or

http://www.amazon.com/AMAZON-KINDLE-...3&sr=1-3-fkmr2

The case crown cases are really nice, i got one for my DX. They are low price, and the quality is surprisingly high. There are no flaws in the workmanship, the seams are good/hidden, there's no threading spilling out/etc. The zippers are padded too.

It's EVA (hard semi-flexible plastic material) on both sides so the thing won't get banged around if you put it in a bag or something. Also you won't have tons of crap on the device when you take it out to use it. Those covers are a hassle that you have to fold back. And don't get anything that covers the screen, it adds glare and looks terrible.

Looks as if there are several options in the $8-12 range on eBay - search for "kindle covers".

My $10 planner cover from Staples works fine, and to my delight, I discovered It had a second, facing pocket that allows me to carry both the K3 and the jetBook in one case.

I crocheted a sleeve (slip cover?) for mine. Not sure how much protection it actually offers.

Dude, that was awesome. I'm already contemplating on whether to get a leather case or not. But idk even for 15 bucks, the other things seem to be overkill. I just want the cover (I'm a minimalist), so I'm 'bookmarking' this link anyway.

EDIT: I saw link for just covers + screen protector below the listing. Seems like a good deal. Also, on their website, items are listed for a buck or 2 lesser than on Amazon.

I went to a place which sells the black 'leatherette' used in upholstery work and bought a small offcut for next to nothing, plus a tube of contact adhesive and a tiny strip of velcro. A couple of hours' work and I have a very serviceable, lightweight and durable sleeve with a velcro flap. I went this route because I was unimpressed by the sheer bulk of a friend's official Kindle case (not to mention the cost).

Instead of using fingernail polish, acrylics will last much longer and you have a huge selection of colors from which to choose.
