I want to know what test too! and I lol @ Chris' statement about IL driving. I actually told my husband that I was glad I grew up driving around Chicagoland. I think it's pretty well prepared me for driving almost anywhere! My husband, on the other hand, grew up driving around a podunk rez town, and he gets eaten alive on the Chicago freeways.

I also realized how amazingly quick it all comes back to me when I get there. Weaving in and out of traffic with the best of them.

Chicago driving isn't that hard.

*waits for laughter to subside*

No, really. It's gotten worse over the last 10 years or so on which I blame cellphone usage, but the trick is (and always has been) to know where you're going. Things happen fast in Chicago traffic so you have to know in advance what you're going to do. The line of traffic behind you isn't going to wait for you to figure it out; the time for that was when you were still at home planning your trip. There isn't a window-mounted GPS fast enough to handle the inbound Ike or the Tri-State, and you'd better know where the construction is happening before you leave, because I guarantee you it's happening somewhere.

Sounds a bit like NYC. The old joke is "You can't get uptown in the morning, you can't get downtown in the afternoon, and you can't get across town at any time!" It's largely true. (I live across town from Penn Station, the main Amtrak station. There have been times when I was traveling by train where if I wasn't burdened with luggage and/or dealing with bad weather, I could have walked there faster than the cab got me there.)

I don't own or drive a car, and I tell people the only ones in NYC who do are either being paid for it or are nuts. Of course, I'm in an area where anything I need on a day to day basis is within a couple of blocks walk of me, there's a good 24 hour public transit system, or I can hail a cab. If I'm traveling outside of NYC, it's probably far enough that I take Amtrak or fly.

I've ridden in a few cabs driven by guys who drove like they were born too late, and really wanted to be kamikazes crashing into US warships in the Pacific during WWII. Friends in Boston tell me I'm lucky, as that's what the average Boston driver is like, and I don't want to know about Boston cab drivers. I'll take their word for it, thanks.

Yeah, I get that from my damn nephew. He starts school, visits us, drops all the random viruses from all the other little sprogs he now hangs out with on us. Two years in a row now...first the flu (and, a real flu, not just the usual "man-flu", that kicked harder than I've been kicked by such before), and this year something that felt flu-ish, but instead of kicking hard, just kicked for a real long time, dragging every bit of energy out of me, and leaving me aching and tired after anything harder than a short walk. And people whinge about "germs" because I let the dogs kiss my face. Sheesh.

People, we have a stray here. You know we're not supposed to miss new folk who drop in. How will we convert them to our Llounge Llama religion if we don't kick up a conversation with them?

C'mon in, James. Yes, yes, that is indeed a very valid rant, as you can tell by my response to Adjust above. Let it out. Now, can I get you a drink?

Could have been glandular fever. I copped that (along with Elita) in March - left us with inflamed spleen and liver, causing a great deal of pain (some days you genuinely felt you'd end up in ER from a burst spleen). 6 months on we're finally seeing the end of it - but it will flare up now and then. What's worse is that it overlapped nicely with me dealing with anxiety disorder (learning to manage it) so it was a real test of sanity for me.

It could also have been the dreaded Ross-river-fever for you Marc - so many possibles.

I do like to keep my isolation out here - every time an out of town visitor comes in from the big-smoke we inevitably are left with an ailment a few days later.

Paul.

Now that is something that I can relate to.

I fell down some wet garden steps, and it still sometimes aches. I usually have to take a tablet and put my feet up.

I sympathise.

Cheers.
