Am I totally off track here, or wasn't Loveland where "The Shining" was set?

Nah - the rolling eyes did imbue the sarcasm and cynicism. Wasn't disagreeing, either (or at least I didn't mean to sound like I was) - I was just stating more blandly that beliefs should be accorded automatic respect just because some-one believes them and they've (the beliefs, not the person) have been around for a while.

Except I think I was being too verbose. And sounding like I was debating. One of those days...

There is a picture of the artwork in the slideshow under the video links. It scrolls through photos of the woman and briefly shows the offending piece.

King was staying in the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park not far from Loveland when he got the idea for The Shining, and some of the interiors of the hotel were used in the movie.

When I was there a few years ago I wanted a picture of myself in front of the hotel holding an axe but I didn't have one handy.

I think we treat the Christians a lot differently when it comes to respecting their religion than we do the Muslims. *shrug*

Dont burn the Quran but to hell with Jesus art. I dont know what the art was of (cant see a picture) but even if that wasnt the case here it usually is the case elsewhere. I love it.

He almost unquestionably was clean-shaven and had short hair - picture the typical "marine". That's what the normal fashion was in the 1st century Roman empire, and that's what all depictions of Jesus showed until about the 8th century, when the (then-current) fashion of long hair and beard took over. Any depiction of Jesus as bearded or with long hair is anachronistic and almost unquestionably wrong.

Loveland, the town is a far piece east of Estes Park, headed out to the plains. Loveland the ski area is a far piece south and then west of Estes Park at the entrance to Eisenhower Tunnel.

My Dad was a part owner of the Stanley for a couple of years. *sigh*

anyway, he took the Stanley and put it up Trail Ridge which closes in the winter.

I got kicked out of Sunday school for saying there was a good chance Jesus could have been black...

From South Carolina, where I lived at the time, they seemed pretty close together.

I don't know about the hair length - Nazarines kept theirs long, though, and wasn't he? Jesus of Nazareth ...?

But I'd be shocked if he or any other Jew at the time shaved their beards, or even their heads.

Dangerous to whom? If a belief is dangerous to unbelievers, then believers are not following Juarez's advice about respecting non-believers.

About the OP, I think that if somebody or something is cherished to some people (name it, Christ, Buddha, Mohammed, the cross, the crescent moon, etc.), then I don't understand why people who don't respect the cherished thing, later got surprised by the reaction to their deeds.
