Recently finished these three: The Time Machine - H.G. Wells Didn't really warm up to this one until about halfway through. The early parts were fairly dry, as was the beginning of the TT's story. After that though, there was some very cool stuff that happened. Still didn't pull it up to be a favorite of mine, but I'm not sorry I read it. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll I actually despised this book. Well, more specifically, I despised the Alice character. What a whiny, self important little brat. Ugh. My dislike for her was so great it ruined any fun or whimsy the book was going for. Risen - Jan Strnad Will give my thoughts on this one in the monthly thread once that goes up. |

I just started "The Hunger Games", I quite like it so far. My YA phase seems to have no end in sight.

Very close to finishing The Girl WithThe Dragon Tattoo, took me a while to get into it, but enjoying it now. Next on my list is Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey. |

I started Ulysses on the train last night, so I guess that takes care of the "serious reading" angle. Looks good so far but I'm only a few pages in. |

Problem is, The Reversal costs $14.00 on the Sony site and a similar price on Amazon. I'm going to wait a while and see if the price doesn't drop to $9.99 like it did on Stephen Hawkings' latest book.

I'm reading The Passion of Mary Magdalen by Elizabeth Cunningham right now. Sadly, it is not available as an ebook, so I'm reading it in paperback. It and it's prequel are the only dtbooks I've purchased since I got my ereader in july! I'm really enjoying this book so far. It kind of reminds me of the mists of avalon, but also a little of kushiels dart.

I finished "The Hunger Games". Wow! I was up half the night reading, I couldn't put it down. I'm already on the sequel.

A nice take on the alternate universe that includes werewolves, vampires, witches, pixies, etc. I think it's fairly obvious what kind of creature the villian is (although it's not stated in the first book). It will be interesting to see if I'm right. Spoiler:
So that's two new series on my Amazon wishlist. First the Temeraire series, and now the Rachel Morgan series. But they'll have to wait until my "to be read" folder is a bit smaller! So now onto Crucible of Empire by Eric Flint and K. D. Wentworth. I seem to remember enjoying the previous book, although it's been a while since I read it — hmm... at least five years. | |

Just come back from my reading group and we chose "Let the Great World Spin" by Colum McCann, and I downloaded Crime and Punishment yesterday so I will be in dire need of a trashy novel before long.

Currently reading "Anno Dracula" by Kim Newman. The year is 1888, and Queen Victoria has a new consort...Prince Vlad Tepes, known throughout Europe as Count Dracula. The age of the vampire has arrived...an era of pomp and decadence, oppression and unrelenting bloodshed...as, one by one, the British elite freely abandon their humanity and actively seek the Dark Kiss of eternal youth. But, as all London is hideously transformed, a ripper stalks the night streets of Whitechapel, preying on vampire girls who sell their bodies for blood and silver...an elusive murderer who threatens the power of the undead Prince...a renegade mortal who must be stopped before he can bring the unGodly's reign of terror to an end. So far, it is a wild mix of historical fact and fiction. You just never know who you might run into next. Great fun! |
