DG is that you too? LOL!!

Didja miss me? I've been traveling since Sept 6. We are in Prague now, and the hotel actually has wifi in the rooms. Slow as dial up, but at least I don't have to go to the lobby to use it. What's new?

I agree. The scariness is in the atmosphere generated by the writing and the images described. Sure the writing style is a bit overblown - but it is great fun.
And, I should add, creepy in a good way.

I'm thinking I know the answer why he was asked so often. But I won't say as it'll spoil things. I did reserve the DVD from the library. So eventually, I'll get to watch it.

Ok, we'll go with creepy. Creepy in how dull it was. Gothic as in somebody playing at being goth and getting it all wrong.

That's a pretty good one. It's got Granny Weatherwax in it.

But the one after Lords and Ladies is rather fun. It's Men at Arms. Quite a good one for sure. The Watch is in that one.

The real charm of this series is the bevy of quirky characters and their interactions - including Crippen the cat. This book was plot driven - tying up the Mr. Fox story line begun in "On the Loose" and mourning the death of a squad member. No sub-plots, no intrigue, a lot of minor but important characters didn't even have a cameo appearance. No seances, no witches. Very little historical detail - even though the action occurred in the London Underground - which has a fantastically rich historical record.

Bottom line - the book seems to have been written just to tie up the Mr. Fox plot line and remove the threat to the PCU's existence, and to get something published in 2010. Very little laugh-out-loud humor, even less dialogue between characters. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Only one brief description caused me to laugh:

Spoiler:
When Bryant fired a gun thought to contain blanks, and the bullet went through the wall narrowly missing their boss's ear and exploding Crippen's cat tray.
I was just told that I had to read this series....well, at least I know I'll probably enjoy the first ones, right?

I finished up ZombieStop Parade yesterday, and now I'm halfway through The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. I heard so much about it, I had to check it out from the library. Been waiting a while, it's a hot item! I also have the second book from the library. I have to read them before they need to go back because I won't be able to renew them! Then I'm on to "The Summoning Fire" by David Michael.

I started readingt Shutter Island. Again! :sigh: Is is because I start this book when I am too distracted by life? Or is it just difficult to get into? I really enjoyed Mystic River. So I am going to give it a good go before I give up.

Just got and started the new Jack Reacher novel, Worth Dying For (by Lee Child).

Enjoying it a lot so far (like the previous 14 in the series)!

I finished I am my own grandpa by Robert Hopper, and it's an enjoyable read once you can work out who what and how and then when, and also keep up. The ending was a surprise.

Just started Stars Rain Down by Chris Randolph, so it's early days....

Both these are member authors
