Any point importing a Nook (Australia)

I was just wondering: is there any point to importing a Nook to Australia?
Is there any way to buy ebooks for the Nook in Australia from any publisher?

1. There sort of still is a point to it, there was when I bought mine, if you like its look/feel more than a Kindle then go for it! (which I happen to )
2. Depends on what you mean by any publisher..B&N seems to have a large amount of publishers signed on and definitely more than any Australian eBook seller, plus the eBooks end out to be cheaper.
To buy from B&N:
Register using a US *billing address*.
Use a VPN like Hotspot Shield or AlwaysVPN to appear as if you were in America.
Buy from the B&N site.

Its pretty simple actually, and if you are so inclined you can softroot it and install a VPN on the nook so you can buy books straight from it.

I bought mine through PriceUSA for AU$250 with express shipping and it came within 2 weeks.

You can also register for an account with the Philadelphia Library from down under and check out library books.

The nook will read ePub books purchased from any store that supports Adobe DRM. The nook will also read eReader books purchased from the eReader store (and I believe fictionwise as well).

I have a nook and it's a nice device, but I have to admit that I like my new Sony 650 better.

The nook does have the advantages of wi-fi, being able to read books from Barnes and Noble, and in the U.S. it's significantly cheaper.

But personally, I like the interface of the Sony better. For me, a dictionary is an important feature of a reader and unfortunately I find the way the nook has implemented the dictionary to be very clunky. Sony's dictionary interface is much better! Also the Sony is quite a bit smaller/lighter than the nook--making it easier to carry in my purse.

I'm planning on keeping my nook and will still use it. But my Sony 650 is definitely going to be my main reader.

You considered the Australian-released Kogan, April? Bought one a couple of weeks ago for an author of ours in Adelaide and she's delighted. Seems to handle pretty well anything from anywhere. Best. Neil

@Neilmarr a friend picked up a Kogan the other week and from what I have seen of it.. it's just one step above rubbish .. the nook is by far better ..

The Sony is now available and from what I have seen ..it's a wonderful little toy.

as for content for the nook.. I buy 90% of my books from B&N without any real problem ..I use hotspot shield on my PC to make the purchase and the other 10% of the books are from Borders or a library books

I have one in sydney!, I preferred teh format over the kindle and love the silent 'swipe' to change pages...it's great when the girlfriend is trying to sleep next to me :-)

I get most of my stuff from fictionwise!
