No, but the comparison is reasonable. They will be roughly comparable as far as CPU power is concerned (both 500-odd MHz ARM cores),

Indexing the books for search is not something MobiPocket Reader does, though, and I think it would probably take as long on his phone as it does on the Kindle. |

Without knowing exactly which HTC smartphone it is, I'm not so sure of that. It's probably quite a bit faster than 500 Mhz. And that's just looking at the processor, nothing else. My Nexus One is about a year old and it's running the 1 Ghz Snapdragon. Admittedly, it is the first one to do so.

Indexing does take quite a bit of processing power. To me, Amazon cut corners where they had to. There's no point in including top of the line CPU power in something like an e-reader. And I applaud them for that. Keep focused on the purpose of the product and there won't be a need to increase the pricing. Sure, maybe indexing takes awhile, but it's only once in a blue moon. Of course, maybe Amazon should create the Kindle Genius where it includes an i7 processor, for people who want bragging rights :P |

Hi - just one small question.

I open file, charge is running, and the Kindle goes after some time to screen saver mode. Is the indexing still running? Or shall I go to some option screen (setting, etc) to avoid going to screen saver mode and to sleep mode later? |

I was just curious - Have anybody tried to remove/rename folder "Search Indexes" from Kindle?

Like idea is - if there is no folder for indexing - no indexing will run. (or second option - Kindle will halt and not boot any more, so that is why I'm asking if somebody has already taken the risk) Last edited by jozicka; 10-04-2010 at 04:35 PM. |

So I took the risk: 1) I renamed folder "Search Indexes" to "Search Indexes1" Failure - New folder "Search Indexes" was created after next usb plug in. I did not give up..... 2) I set Index.db file to "read only" status at windows. WORKING!! - after unplug from usb i can observe immediately fast response. Actually after other plug to usb I could see the file is still getting bigger. But speed is fine, so no problem. May be the are some side effects, but I have already tried reset to "factory default", and after that the "read only" flag is gone. Last edited by jozicka; 10-04-2010 at 06:47 PM. |

To folder document I put only a few books. So I still have all my collection with me, and I'm still close with any computer with USB to copy new files from BOOKS directory. |
