I used to have another alarm clock across the room. Now I wake up before the alarm. Why use it? I need it about twice a year now.

Doesn't anyone give thanks in the morning to the monster under the bed for not eating you in your sleep?

It is enough that all of you is under the blankets, feet first of all, but arms also. just the nose can be outside, and keep the eyes well shut. If you ear funny noises just pretend that you are asleep.
Watch out with which foot you get on the ground when you get up. Make sure it is not the left one. Rich Romans had a slave to remember it to them. Want me to call you collect to remind you? Or I can wake you up every hour on the hour just to make sure.

Let the dogs out. There's no lying in bed or hitting the snooze alarm with 6 dogs.

That's why I ALWAYS sleep with my feet under the covers - the monster under the bed always starts by nibbling on your toes!

The monster that's usually under my bed is me (my bed is lofted and my computer desk is under it).

My weekday routine:
1. Wonder what that horrible beeping noise is
2. Realize that it's the alarm clock
3. Climb down ladder, switching alarm clock off on the way
4. Toilet
5. Make tea
6. Shower, if it's summer. (In winter I shower at night)
7. Breakfast
8. Make second cup of tea
9. Putter on computer until it's time to go to work

Not UNDER the bed! Too nasty for them. Heck - they share the comforter with me!

[Only one of my cats ever goes under the bed - the baby - she's afraid of thunderstorms and hides there]

You can do this first thing in the morning without killing yourself?

I can climb down the ladder with no difficulty. However, I do have to wait at least 15 minutes before it's safe for me to be in the shower because I'm pretty wobbly with standing/walking when I first wake up. I dunno, maybe my vestibular sense takes a while to warm up, but my ladder-climbing skills are unaffected.

Probably because you have to climb up and down every day.

Maybe you should do the 30 second stand on one leg thing several times a day. Its supposed to stave off old age.

Article here starts on page 65.

I don't think it's age-related. I have been clumsy since I was a toddler and am now a clumsy 29-year-old. I'm willing to try just about anything that might help as long as it isn't potentially harmful. I think 16 years of dance class helped when I was a child/teenager but there's not much opportunity for that kind of thing as an adult unless one is doing it in a professional capacity. I don't think my occasional sashaying down the aisles at work counts as professional dancing.

I have found improvement at yoga and body balance classes. All adult ages attend. Blokes and Sheilas. At first I fell over a lot, but I am getting better now.
