The hacks had great instructions and I'm no rookie at this.

Everything went fine, had my preferred screen savers and font back on my K3 and one day later suddenly I could not open the book I was reading, could not reacquire it from archives, could not open other books and when I tried to run the uninstall the hacks but could not open the settings page. Clicking "Settings" just brings me back to the home page. Amazon is sending me a new K3. Hopefully I won't be charged for it once they dig into the old one. Be advised. I was considering trying out some of the "hacks" on my K3 but this thread has changed my mind for good. I will not even consider it.

So, thank you. I know you messed up but thanks for telling us so that we can learn from your mistake. |

I have never put hacks on anything... My kindle I use to read books, and I don't even look at the picture before I turn it on.

My ipod is still as it was, when I bought it, except for all the apps and music I've put on it... My 2 sons, however, are very much into technology, and will try to tweak anything... When they lived at home, I always had to tell them: "The computer works! Don't fix it!" |

Never personally been a fan of hacking anything like that - sure, I've got the gear here to actually work on those ARM setups and linux but I still don't think I'll dig into it. I prefer a slightly less featured system that works over a more featured one that barely does.

This is why I didn't try it on mine. While I'm a bit skeptical that it caused the problem (most hackers tend to know what they are doing, often better than the original designers), there really didn't seem to be much return for risking it.

then. Manufacturer does not pay attention to user and handles only device to be uniform and easy to manage. My best bet is that confi- guration file changes format or the name. Something similar could be found for linux/bsd, but people post it to mailing lists or forums. I don't expect it for k3, since "hacks" are something of not expected. Cannot get why. Who on this planet, regarding users, does not want fbreader on his k3? |

I wanted to change my SS but didn't as I was worried about my warranty. I emailed Amz to ask if they still honoured the warranty as they did with the kindle 2 ss hack, but they replied that it would void the warranty as you are breaking the ToS where you agree not to change the software, that was enough to stop me......real shame as I hate those screensavers

Bah, I Jailbroke mine day 1 and have got nice custom screen savers and fonts

. If mine had gone tits up I'd have just sent it back, if Amazon played up I'd have just claimed on my credit card ![]() In fact I always make a issue of upgrading my firmware on all my hardware day 1 in case they brick and I just send them back as DOA, Although touch wood I've never had a problem with hacks or upgrading firmware, As long as you read through the instructions a few times you should be ok, I'm pretty obsessive about reading instructions numerous times
