I remember years back reading Expiration Date. Oddly enough, it looks like nobody's bothered to even make a bootleg ebook from that.

I'm hoping next year's release of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie (Disney licensed Powers' book "On Stranger Tides" and they're at least using the title) might spur some interest in his back catalog. Maybe we'll see some more availability soon.

this week's weirdest thing I read and liked is 'Broken Bulbs' by Eddie Wright. You can find it on Smashwords:

I just finished The Translated Man by Chris Braak. That had some weird and wonderful things in it. If you like Lovecraftian steampunk dark Victorian crime stories, you'll like this one.

The Holographic Universe

The Holgraphic Universe...It changed the way I see EVERYTHING!!!! Part science, part holistic, part weird and part thoughtful conjecture...it's a wild ride of a book

Depends on what you mean by "weird." As far as I can remember, only 3 of his novels (that are available in English) are explicitly about "supernatural" things-- Kafka on the Shore, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, adn The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles. Most of them are just mostly about music, and food, and sex, and (kind of condescending portrayals of) women. (I've read 10 out of the 11 English novels so far, but that is spread over a few years, so I don't remember all the details.)

I've read two of his so far, both of which I found "surreal" in tone: Dance, Dance, Dance and After Dark. I admit that aspect could've been emphasized by the audio narrator.

I've read a few on this list and really enoyed them, particularly the Scarlett Thomas ones. She has a new one out in hardback, haven't investigated to see how much is is as an e-book. Jasper Fforde also very enjoyable.

I have a China Melville book I've not yet read, but one weird book is "Poor Things" by Alisdair Grey. Another is My Dirty Little Book of Stolen Time by Liz Jensen.

To be honest most of these authors I've been introduced to by my reading group in Waterstones - we must be an odd group.

Not at all what I would expect from either author, quite amazing.

Thanks for the heads-up. Added to the TBR
