Can't answer your question about the screen but I can't believe it wouldn't be a Pearl screen. Perhaps this preliminary info is simply a bit off; I'm sure it doesn't weigh "Approx. 1.23 oz" either.

So why does the Sony site also call it Viplex?

Methinks their right hand does not know what their left hand is writing.

Please note that the new o/s dimensions of the PRS 950 are 2 inches taller and wider than the 900 and about 4 ozs. heavier.

Surely, the 950 will not fit the same way in this same case.

Hopefully, there will be something comparable that will work.

I have a MEdge case for my 900 and it is very well made and protective, but I'm not ready to drop it to find out. It also has small outside pockets, one with a zipper for cards and extra battery-ie., small thin items.

Where do you get these numbers? 2 inches on both dimensions is a lot for the 950 to gain, and in images it didn't grow it shrank.

I've seen this post on 3 different 950 threads, and it completely contradicts what I've seen with pictures.

Here is the 950 with the 900:
900 with 950

And the article that goes with these pictures says the 950 weights .5 pounds.

Certainly the 950 appears thinner in this photo as well as the Endgaget photos. I will ask the salesman at ABT to whom I am speaking to call Sony and attempt to verify the dimensions as well as the inclusion of the the transformer plug with the 950 package.

To answer the original post, I'd go with the 950 over the 650 because in the long run, the ability to have user-replace-able batteries will outweigh having to send the thing in after your battery dies and settle for whatever it is you get in return.

Unless of course I've got no clue what I'm talking about and the 650 is slated to have user-replaceable batteries as well, in which case I'll kindly shut my trap :3.

I'm SO GLAD Sony is doing this though! The contrast on the PRS 900 I just bought a few weeks ago is so horrible I couldn't read it without making the text big, and after seeing these announcements, I'm sending that sucker back while I still can and preordering the 950.

I guess I'll chime in since Im trying to decide between a 650 and 950 as well, I have had a 505 from day one, and for reading books it was perfect, Im not concerned about wifi or 3G but I do have a lot of pdf's and tech manuals, Now I am contemplating an ipad upon the 2nd version release so I may go with the 650 for reading and let the ipad do the grunt work for the pdf and tech books. I guess it wouldnt be an issue if the 950 were available now, Im just impatient and without a reader so the 650 is looking really good. So is the extra inch worth the wait or if an Ipad is in the mix does it make it moot??

I'm thinking of sticking it out a bit longer with my 505 for the 950 - I don't care about the wireless aspect at all, although if it works as a halfway decent occasional browser I won't complain! I want it for optimal reading of (PDF-format) library books.

You read my mind. I've been considering either the 650 or the 950, and I think I'll wait it out for the 950. I hope it comes with extras, like the 900 did! As I recall, the 900 had a book cover case, a traveling case and a plug-in charger. There was also (as far as I recall) a package offered for $50 off without the traveling case. Has anyone heard anything about the 950 coming with some extras?

Confused- Did You See 950 Somewhere

It is taller than 6". If it were bigger than 6" by 1" proportionally, then it would clearly be the winner. However, it is as wide as 6". It means when you enlarge text size, you will get on 950 as much of text in one line as on 650. What is a point?
Is your unhappiness with the 950 limited to the proportion issue?
Did you see it at a show etc.? Was it a production model? Or are you basing it upon the specs.

Proportion, pixel size and resolution etc aren't discussed much here. The iPhone shows that a small screen can really look great. How do ebook readers compare.
